Seiichi Motohashi

The word "abattoir" (used in the UK) is a nice French sounding word (at least to an American ear). However, this place is anything but nice. It's a slaughterhouse, a place where animals are killed for their meat. The black and white photos are printed "full bleed" where the rich blacks run off the pages (get it?). The photographer has a sharp eye and shows the viewer this disgusting and disturbing place in all its glory, I mean gory. Almost makes one want to switch to being a vegetarian. All text is unfortunately only in Japanese. Highly recommended book. The photos were taken in a Tokyo area shaughterhouse. The next time you order a beef steak (if you can still eat it), you will see it in a much darker light.… (meer)
