- Evdokia Apollovna Nagrodskaia (also spelled Nagrodskaya) was a daughter of Russian journalist Apollon Golovachev and author and salon hostess Avdotia Yakovlevna Panayeva. Raised in an intellectual environment, Evdokia became a remarkably candid and avant-garde novelist and poet in turn-of-the-century Russia. Her first novel, The Wrath of Dionysius (1910) was a sensational bestseller and went through ten editions by 1916. Her other works included The White Colonnade (1900), The Bronze Door (1911), and The River of Times (1924). With the outbreak of the Russian Revolution in 1917, Evgenia and her husband fled to Paris. Although French and German translations were published during her lifetime, her works did not begin to appear in English until 1997.
