manga translated from Japanese
silly and full of heart; two friends explore Japanese culture. Even if you don't know a lot about Jesus or Buddha, you'll find this funny and chapter notes thoughtfully provide background info and explain the Japanese puns.

Firstly, I am so glad that there is now an official English translation of this manga. I've been waiting for a long time for there to be one and I'm glad that there now is one because I have been intrigued by the premise ever since a friend of mine told me about this manga.
I thought that this was a very easy read and pretty fun but I did find that sometimes the jokes were a little to religious for my liking. Simply because I didn't always get them, or I didn't find them that funny, and I think that there is probably a number of people out there that will feel the same.
It was very light hearted and an easy read, but I don't think that I would be that interested in carrying on with this series. It's not the usual kind of manga that I tend to read but I did enjoy it but not enough to want to really carry on reading this series.

It is pretty impressive that the author can create convincing, but absurd scenarios ad nauseum without deterring from my enjoyment of the series. I had to set down Nichijou after a thousand pages, but with Rec and his hoodlum friends under the bridge, I feel like I could continue reading for years before growing tired of their unexpected antics. There is something innocent about the life of those under the bridge. None of them will admit they are homeless or desperate. But all of them are carving out their own, somewhat creepy happiness in this slice of paradise, at least as long as the dream lasts...

The humor here just does not translate, so much so that the publisher felt obliged to include notes after every chapter to explain it. Because explained jokes are the best kind, y'know?

I was hoping for a little blasphemy or iconoclasm, but the best the author can do in this unfunny buddy comedy is to portray Buddha as a penny pincher and Jesus as a spendthrift. The running gags about Buddha's large earlobes and Jesus' stigmata are just feeble.

No more for me, thank you.

This was really interesting and almost funny to read. I would never have expected something like this to exist!
