While tending to look on the positive side of their subject, as one might expect from two former staffers of the Center for Military History, this is a really excellent overview of the regular units and bureaucratic organization of the U.S. Army during the Civil War. My biggest gripe with this book is that this work would have a much wider audience if it were not for the truly ridiculous cover price and the the apparent failure to release an affordable paperback edition; the effective promulgation of knowledge this is not. I read it as an e-book.
