In the 1960s and 70s two men, neighbors, both of them husbands and fathers, engage in a lasting and secret affair, told through letters exchanged during a time when they lived in different cities. The missives demonstrate their love, as well as their struggles with shame, guilt and fear of discovery. Forty years later their daughters, married and with grown children of their own, discover these old letters and are forced to confront the truth of their own seemingly idyllic childhoods. Neil Ellis Orts has written a sensitive and beautifully crafted little novella of forbidden love and family secrets. Very highly recommended.
