Pleasant little book, very much in the author's wry comic voice. Bond fans will enjoy his perspective and personal reminiscences. Borrowed from our library's new online "Freading" service

I, like everyone else I would assume, love James Bond. So it was only fitting that I should read something about Jimmy's 50th anniversary. My friend got me this book for my birthday. It was written by the third person to play James Bond, Roger Moore. Although there are some very interesting stories about the book to film adaptations and the politics involved behind making the movies, I couldn't help at being constantly annoyed with Moore's bombastic and cocky tone throughout the book. This book is supposed to be about Bond's 50th anniversary Roger, not you!

On a kinder note, Moore does highlight some of the great aspects about being James Bond; everything from style, gadgets, locations, etc. He also pays tribute to some of the recurring figures in the movies that we don't see on screen, like the main producer for almost every Bond movie, Albert R. Broccoli. The book is loaded with great pictures from the movies as well as some from behind the scenes. Finally, it gives box office statistics for every single movie, as well as very nice pictures of all the movie posters. Overall, it is a decent book...if you can get past Roger's ego.

A very good jaunt through the Bond Films, with a little on Fleming & the literary Bond of the 1950's too. Written by Roger Moore, this takes the form almost of an after dinner speech from a fantastic Bon viveur, & raconteur. Very amusing in places & packed with anecdotes about the Moore era in particular, it is a more detailed fan book & recollection by probably the most self deprecating of all of the actors to play James Bond. A good find, & fun coffee table reading for those who aren't ardent fans.… (meer)
