This was a delightful short story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Abby is an intern in New York City, doing what she loves, but not able to go home to be with family and her boyfriend, Brad, on Christmas Eve. She is not one to feel sorry for herself, though, and so she plans out how she will enjoy Christmas Eve on her own: video chat with her family and boyfriend, make snickerdoodle cookies and watch some movies. Then things start to unravel on her plans; first, she discovers she needs cinnamon for her cookies, so she asks her neighbor Jason (who she hardly knows) but he turns out to be a little unfriendly. Then she phones Brad just to chat but finds out some very devastating news. Feeling worse by the minute, she gets a knock on her door, and without spoiling anything for you, let's just say Christmas Eve begins to look up and so does two people's futures together! A short story (only took me about 20 minutes to read), but a very satisfying story. About a young college student, Ellie, home for Christmas break. She is sitting in a coffee shop, when in walks Luke Williams, a high school friend she hasn't seen in years. Ellie has always had dreams of leaving her small town and becoming a professional singer. Luke had a Broadway career, but Ellie discovers he gave it up to move back to his hometown and take a job teaching music. Ellie will volunteer to help Luke with a children's choir he is putting together with children from the poorer side of town. It is a very sweet story how her eyes are opened to the love these kids share with Ellie and the talent they possess.… (meer)

So on Christmas Eve, she plans to video chat with her boyfriend, Brad, make her family's famous snickerdoodle cookies and watch some movies. Things don't turn out the way Abby plans though. She discovers she doesn't have one important ingredient for the cookies so she asks her neighbor Jason but he turns out to be pretty rude. Then she phones Brad just to chat but finds out some life changing news. Feeling down and out she finds consolation from the least likely source.

This was a short and sweet read. I enjoyed the characters and the Christmas theme. Abby was a nice lady. I liked the way she was trying to make the best of being away from her family by doing the things she did with them. The cover of the book was very inviting and that's what drew me to want to read the book. The story could have used a good proofreader but other than that it was a cute, short, satisfying holiday read!
