Nutsi loves looking at the moon before he goes to bed. But when he gets into bed, he hugs his cuddly hazelnut toy, Nutsi is afraid of the dark.
One day, Nutsi has a wonderful idea. He will grab the moon and put it in his room. Then it won’t be so dark, and he will no longer be afraid.
He and his friend Lilli go hunting for the highest tree in the forest; when they find it, they sit high in the branches, waiting for the moon. Nutsi slides out on the branch to catch the moon and the two squirrels suddenly fall into the snowbank beneath the tree.
Grandma finds them and walks them home. She tells Nutsi that the moon is in outer space and it is too big to put into his room. Will she know a way to help Nutsi?

Many young readers will relate to Nutsi’s fear of the dark; this delightful picture book provides parents with an opportunity to discuss the problem with the young child and arrive at a solution. [Hopefully, however, the solution will not be a candle in the child’s room. Even squirrel children should keep away from open flames.]
But the story is cute, the pictures colorful. The friendship between the two young squirrels is a nice touch. The story provides parents [or teachers] with an opportunity for discussion with the child about what is safe to do, why stories sometimes have characters doing things that might not be safe for children to try, and, of course, how to solve the fear of the dark problem.… (meer)
