In this version of Cinderella, set in the Philippines, Abadeha endures abuse by her stepmother before being helped by the Spirit of the Forest and becoming the bride of the island chieftan's son.
Abadeha's father marries and his new wife and children move into their house. Abadeha's stepmother treats her badly, but the Spirit of the Forest appears to help Abadeha escape her miserable life.

This story is a bit long for a story time, but could be offered in an abridged version. I like the Philippine elements mixed in to the well-known Cinderella tale: Spirit of the Forest, jewel tree, son of a chieftain.
