Summary:
Yafi's Family tells the story of a little boy from Ethiopia name Yafi. Yafi is adopted by an American family who talks to Yafi about his adoption. The story tells of Yafi's family in Ethiopia and of his Ethiopian mother's death. Because of Yafi's mother passing away he goes to live with his grandma Elsa. Elsa is unable to take care of Yafi and sends him to an orphanage. Yafi's new family explains to him their love for him and how they will always love and care for him.

Personal Reaction:
Yafi's Family is a very heartwarming story. My father is adopted and is so thankful for his family. I love how the story shows honesty and truth about adoption. The book does a wonderful job of teaching love, loss, and adoption to children.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
Yafi's Family would be a great book to use for an elementary classroom. It allows for children to understand adoption and culture from another country. The book teaches valuable lessons of love and loss, which is something I believe every person experiences in life.… (meer)
