Twin Souls: Nevermore Series #1🍒🍒🍒🍌
By. K.A. Pope
2012

Alexis Hobbes is attending High School in Willowshire, Colorado. It is the eve of her 18th birthday, popular but a bit of a rebel. Only her best friend,Mabel knows the truth of her heritage.
She is a vampire hunter.
Alexis father wants her to carry on the family's heritage. But there are some secrets Alexis still does not know.
Meanwhile, there is a new mysterious guy in her music class she thinks is cute, and she wants to get to know him. However he has a secret past as well.
He is a vampire.
Will Alexis chose to embrace her father's wishes and carry on the heritage....or.....will she fall in love....
Nice plot twists and. character building. The slow revelation of the history of the characters really adds to the overall mystique.
Not a great novel, but I'm intrigued to read more of the series. Recommend!

A vampire and a vampire hunter fall in love. Not a good combination. But Alex has just discovered she is a vampire hunter from a long line of hunters. Now she has to convince her newly found father that Salem isn't like other vampires and should live.

A fun, quick read.½

Amazon Description:
Alexis has come a long way since learning the truth about her vampire hunting lineage. If becoming a hunter wasn't bad enough, she discovered that she possessed a gift few hunters have ever been blessed with. The gift of the raven. But is this a gift or a curse?

When a mysterious new girl starts hanging around Alexis' friends and lurking around town, Alex suspects the worst. Is Claire more than she seems? One thing is certain, Alex needs to learn to control her new ability in order to make sure the ones she loves stay safe.

Opinions:

Hybrid is the second book in the Nevermore series. If you have not read book one, Twin Souls, you are about to see some spoilers. You should read book one before book two. You have been warned!

The story continues where the first book left off. In this book Alexis is still becoming comfortable with her new life when things take a turn. Another vampire has been spotted around town, and Alexis is faced with a near-death experience. The result of this changes her life and those around her forever. If that’s not enough, there are more family secrets that come out of the closet, which could be good or could be bad….

The book is written in first person following Alexis – like the last book. Characters return from the first book along with some new faces – including family. I want to avoid spoilers, so excuse the vagueness. I think the one character that ends up staying with Alexis and Salem seemed a little unbelievable with the sudden change in characteristics. I would have also liked to have more of Karen, since she and Alexis were close friends before. It seems her character is there basically to feed info/people/etc. to the story.

The story moved along well. There was a lot of action and twists along the way. The group faces other vampires, as well as, trying to learn about this new hybrid situation. I won’t say much more about that. You’ll have to read it for yourself. The ending is another cliff hanger that should lead into the third book of the series.

Overall it was a good read. If you like young adult paranormal stories with vampires/shifters. You might enjoy this book.

Amazon Description:
Seventeen year old Alexis finds herself on the eve of her eighteenth birthday. What generally means a step into adulthood instead opens its way to a terrifying truth about not only her family, but herself. She comes from a long line of vampire hunters, and her real dad wants her to carry on the family quest. At the same time, she is falling for a new boy at school who has his own secret. He is a vampire. Alexis is forced to make a decision from which there is no turning back. - Will she deny this newly discovered heritage, or embrace it.

Opinions:
Twin Souls is a young adult/paranormal story that follows Alexis through her startling discovery of her family’s secrets. The book starts off with a startling note from her mother which states that her parents are not really her birth parents. She comes to know that she comes from a long line of vampire hunters. Incidentally, the new boy she meets is a vampire. She must choose between what she was born to do and what she feels to be the right thing.

The story is written in first person following Alexis. Alexis is a strong-willed girl who doesn’t shy away from making a decision and following through. Her life is thrown apart when she learns about her family and the hidden world she never knew existed. Salem is vampire that has an interest in Alexis. He was born in 1885. Unlike the violent human blood drinking vampires that are known by the vampire hunters, he is “safer” because he drinks animal blood. However, as Alexis finds out, vampire can slip up – and those types of mistakes are deadly to humans.

The plot kept things interesting. There was action and twists in the book. I did find some parts a little unbelievable – or rather – I would have liked to see a little more difficulty or information behind them. For instance, everything necessary (for daily life) is just handed to Alexis. Being left alone, she could have faced a little more difficulty than vampire who can poof cheesecake out of the air. Also, I think there should have more interaction or discussion with her friends, Karen and Jason. I understand she had a life changing experience; but if their relationship ran that deep, I think there should have been more to it than what was in the story.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. If you like young adult books with vampire, then you might want to give this book a try.

The first book in this series reminded me of the House of Night series by the Casts. The second book has a little more Twilight thrown in, while still being its own unique story.

The concept of the Raven-Hunter is cool - I haven't seen it a hundred times - but the romance throws me off (I'm not a romantic person).

This book ends with a very strong lead-in to third book in the series.

I received a free copy in exchange for review.
