The book details the author's paddle from Brisbane to Adelaide along the Murray-Darling basin to raise awareness of the rivers' poor health due to aggressive water allocation and irrigation. Much of the writing focuses on the author's falling out with his first support crew. As a consequence, the writing lacks direction and doesn't present either an entertaining account of the trip or a compelling case for river reform.
