This is not an easy read. I do think it is an important read though. It deals with adult situations so I would not give it to young teens. I think the author is very knowledgeable about the subject. His writing is solid. I would recommend this to readers interested in human trafficking and crime lovers.

Billy Green certainly had an interesting life growing up which is what this book is about. Taking Billy from about the age of four until almost his junior year in college. His mother doted on him and his father was absolutely horrible to him. I could not believe some of the things that man said to Billy.

Billy was certainly funny in his ways of looking at things. I really enjoyed reading about Billy. There were a few times when it slowed down and I had to skip a few pages. However, for the most part, this was a very entertaining read. The descriptions and phrases used were hilarious at times. I pretty much sped through the pages, laughing most of the way, until Billy got to college and met Natalie. Then it sort of became redundant and rather lackluster. The ending . . .

Yeah, that's about it was. Then I realized there are more Billy books. If the rest of his time with Natalie is as unexciting as it was in this book, I don't think I have the desire to carry on. However, until that point, I was a huge Billy fan.

Thanks to Literary Vagabond Books and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

A hard-hitting eye-opening novel.

Right off the bat I must say that this was not an easy read for me; very few things make me uncomfortable, this book did that to me, which is a testament to talented author John Rachel and his well-researched novel.

Small time crocked low life ‘Lucky’ Lenny Petrocelli becomes embroiled in the sexual exploitation and trafficking of minors for an outfit operating out of Chicago; New Yorker Lenny is way over his head. And while the Djin Djin girls ply their trade in the dirty streets of Brooklyn, Bishop Mulcahy and a brutal serial killer with a messiah complex try to clean the streets. The Bishop by railing the community, the serial killer with brutality learned in the Vietnam War. Multiple story lines converge to make Petrocelli a compelling read worthy of a place in the New York Times Best Seller List as stories like this one are worthy of National attention, as the ‘Author’s Note’ reads in the introduction: … “It is currently estimated that human trafficking is annually a 36 billion dollar business worldwide. I have also read there are more than 25 million people in the world kept in bondage as slaves. I fear this is a low figure.” Another thing of note is that despite the subject matter; author John Rachel writes in a witty, world weary manner, with believable characters in a world where greed rules; profit above all else, even the lives of innocent children. Powerful stuff.

"Blinders Keepers" by John Rachel

My Thoughts...

Wow, this author never disappoints...he knows how to keep your attention as he did with this satire read. There was a good opening, plot, with hilarious humor[laugh out loud], metaphors, insanity, adventure, surprises, political atmosphere of the white house...as we are given this satire of this 'young man [Noah]with one idealistic mindset of it will all come out in the wash.' What a journey this was for this young man who will leave his hometown in Missouri and end up getting mixed up accidentally that propelled him into being a fugitive. My thoughts about what was going on with Noah was that the 'root of all of his travails was just one study misunderstanding!' We find Noah is being sort after by every intelligence agency in the country.

The secondary characters are for the most part down right entertaining that will definitely keep you turning the pages so see what is going on next.

This is one story that the reader will see that almost nothing and no one seems to be who they are. Definitely the reader will be left in a thought provoking state. Now, I will stop here and just say this is one you will have to pick up and see for yourself how well this author brings it all out to the reader.

Be ready for a long read that will have you switching around from scenes to scenes with characters that will have 'things to say in quite a memorable way.' In the end "Blinders Keepers" was just a well written novel for one to sit back and let the insanity unfold.

Thank you to the author for letting me read your novel and my giving a honest opinion of the read.
