- Gerald Renner is a veteran journalist who recently retired from The Hartford Courant, where he was a staff writer specializing in religious news, issues, and trends. Now a freelancer, he has been the recipient of a Templeton Prize for religion writing from the Religion News Association, a John Hancock Award for deadline reporting, and several investigative reporting awards from the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists. Before joining the Courant, Renner was editor and director of Religion News Service in New York and a vice president of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He lives in Norwalk, Connecticut, and is a 1959 graduate of Georgetown.
