- Presbyterian minister from Paris, Kentucky who debated Alexander Campbell at the Main Street Christian Church, Lexington, KY. The debate lasted sixteen days, beginning November 15, and concluded on December 2, 1843. The basic issues were Christian baptism, the spiritual influence on conversion, and ecclesiastic creeds. Statesman Henry Clay moderated for Alexander Campbell.
Dr. Rice was a graduate of Union Theological Seminary, New York City. On July 4, 1851 he delivered the main address at the laying of the cornerstone of the first building at the Missouri School for the Deaf.
