I didn't think this book was quite as good as "The Eagle Trail". For me it lacked the suspense the first book had. However, I still enjoyed this sequel as I followed the adventures of Paul, Didier, Josette and Henri as they continued to outwit the Germans during WWII.

This is the second book in the series but even though I have not read the first, I still understood what was going on by the end of the 2nd chapter. Set in occupied France, Paul is living with his friend Didier's family in a remote village.
Into the village one night parachute a troop of German special forces who the reader initially thinks are after Paul. But that is not the case, the head collaborator in the village has recognised a famous physicist who is on the run from the Nazis who want him to help build an atomic bomb, hiding out a remote farmhouse.
The Germans raid the house and kidnap the scientist's wife prompting Paul and his friends to revive the lying low Resistance movement to rescue her.
There are some great characters in Josette, the feisty French girl, the Basque farmer who fought in the Spanish civil war and knows how to make petrol bombs, and the farming twins who swap sides when the Nazis threaten the physicist's wife.
All in all a fast flowing action packed book that fans of Andy McNab and Robert Muchamore will like.

With an exciting beginning and plenty of action, "Eagle Trail" was a quick read. I liked Paul, but Josette annoyed me most of the time - spoilt brat.

Nicht anspruchsvoll, aber flott zu lesen, wenn man auf Fußball und Heldenstories (aus ärmlichen Verhältnissen zum Superstar) abfährt.

Author : Robert Rigby

Rating : 5/5
Wouldn’t it be great if you could if you played professional soccer? Well young Santiago Munez was born in Mexico and he illegally emigrated from Mexico to LA when he was young and he plays soccer for Americanos and one day he gets scouted from Glen Foy who is a former Newcastle United player and scout.
Glen gets Santiago a trial with Newcastle but he doesn’t have enough money so Santi’s grandmother buys him a train ticket and plane ticket and he flies over to England and does his trial but he doesn’t tell anyone about his asthma. He trains with the reserves his first day and slips a lot cause he’s not used to the weather and he does bad and they say he won’t get another trial but Glen gets him a 1 month trial through some hard work and chasing the manager around .
He does really good in the trial so he gets a match for the reserves and he comes off the bench and scores a really good goal and next match he starts but Hughie from the reserves doesn’t like Santi and he steps on his puffer before the game and Santiago plays really bad and the manager of the first team watches him play. The manager thinks about letting Santi go but Gavin Harris the first team player tells the coach that Santi is really good and he lets him stay.
From then on in the reserves he played really good and scores lots of goals and he gets pushed up into the first team. He started on the bench most of the games but when he came on against Fulham he scored a volley and they won that game and they had to win to try and get into Europe for next season and they had two games left and they had to win them both. The second last game was against Chelsea and they were losing 1 nil and the manager bought Santi on and he scored 1 and so did Gavin Harris Santi’s best friend.
Meanwhile when Santi went to hospital he met Roz she is a nurse and they become boyfriend and girlfriend and in the last game of the season against Liverpool Santiago is starting and so is Gavin Harris. Within 5 minutes of the game Liverpool is winning 1-0 and at half time the score is the same. And right after half time Santi scores a really good goal. But Liverpool came firing back with a goal and with only 5 minutes to go Newcastle had to score 2 goals. Gavin Harris got a penalty and scores so its 2-2 and with only 1 minute to go Santi is on the run but he gets tripped over and he gets a free kick and takes it. As he kicks it, it curls like a banana and the crowd is silently watching the ball and It curls in to the top corner and Newcastle win 3-2 and qualify for Europe and Santiago played a great game.

I thought this is a great book and is the best way to explain how you can play professional soccer. This book also explains that anyone can be a professional soccer player and you don’t have to be rich to play professional. If you love soccer this book would be great and so are all the series.

One of my middle school son's books, based on the movie of the same name. This was a good, wholesome, feel-good story about an illegal immigrant from Mexico who is "discovered" playing soccer in an LA park and ends up playing in England for Newcastle.

Goal : Glory Days, written by Robert Rigby, is a motivational and adrenaline - rushed story involving a superstar soccer player whom of which is at his peak, playing in the greatest tournament in the world, the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Santiago Munez is a man who was born in Mexico but immagrated and grew up in the streets of Spain. Munez faces a dilema in which he choses to play for Mexico internationally, he finds that even at the top of his game, he still cannot find a place in the 23 - man squad nor has he had a cap(game) for the team so being the opportunist that he is, Munez switches sides to the Spanish international team, being farfetched as it is, Munez somehow finds a place in the 23 - man squad. At a club level, playing for Real Madrid, it was no inconvenience getting a passport and living in Spain with Jules, his wife. Although the movie, GOAL:III is based on the novel just as the other movies in the series are, it has alterations throughout the storyline. Despit confrontations and injury scares, Munez competes on the grandest stage of them all for World Cup glory. The novel is targeted at ages 13 and above and is an ideal read for all soccer lovers. I rate this book 5 stars and hope the novel was compelling and interesting for you as it was for me.

Danny Watts's grandfather, Fergus, was a traitor. One of the worst sort. An SAS explosives expert who betrayed his country and his regiment for money. Drug money. He was arrested and left to rot and die in a Columbian jail. At least, that's what seventeen year-old Danny is told when his hopes of becoming a soldier are destroyed for ever. But he knows something the army doesn't seem to know. Fergus Watts is alive and in the UK, living in secret under an assumed name - but where? Fergus is Danny's only living relative. Burning with fury and desire for revenge, Danny sets out to track down his grandfather and expose him. In doing so he sets in train an explosive sequence of events which throw Danny and Fergus together on the run from the people who want Fergus, and now Danny, dead. Packed with breathtaking action, SAS procedures, surveillance and survival techniques, this is a fast-moving, action-packed thriller for teenagers.

Danny Watts is doing well on a three-day selection course for a bursary from the Army. It is his only chance of attending university and Sandhurst Military Academy. Danny is an orphan and he wants to be a soldier, like his SAS hero grandfather. All his plans are changed in a matter of moments by a mysterious stranger.
Questioned about the grandfather he has never met, Danny is turned down because his grandfather has been branded a traitor. Burning with anger, 17year-old Danny decides to track down his grandfather and expose him. This is easier said than done, as Fergus is an expert at avoiding capture.
Danny is not the only one who wants to find Fergus. He does not think through why he should be stopped from entering the army, just because of something his grandfather has done and that, maybe, he is being used by sinister figures in the government.
He sets in train an explosive sequence of events, as he and his computer whiz friend, Elenna, set out to find Fergus. Eventually Danny and Fergus are thrown together, and end up on the run from people who want Fergus, and, if need be, Danny dead.
Danny uncovers much more than he intended and his life is changed forever.

From School Library Journal Grade 7-10–In this sequel to Traitor (Putnam, 2005), Danny and his ex-SAS grandfather, Fergus Watts, survive an attempt on their lives while hiding out in Spain. They stop running and return to the UK with the hope of clearing their names and resuming a normal life, and are recruited to help uncover a corrupt MI5 agent who, at the same time, is trying to have them killed. Danny enlists the help of his friend Elena so that he and Fergus can accomplish the impossible: breaking into the heavily secured British Ministry of Defense in order to get official proof of Fergus's background and save their lives. The police are on high alert because of a series of suicide bombings carried out by teenagers, and MI5 tries to frame Danny as a terrorist. Adventure and suspense drive this plot. Despite some weak character development, the book will find a ready audience._–Michael Giller, South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, Greenville_

From This sequel to Traitor (2005) opens with Danny Watts and his former secret-service-agent grandfather, Fergus, hiding out in Spain. An attempt on their lives, however, sends them back to England, where the country is in turmoil after a series of suicide bombings. After Fergus is seriously wounded, he and Danny enlist Danny's friend Elena to help unravel the mystery of the attackers' identities. Despite many loose ends, young spy-fiction fans will enjoy entering Danny's murky world, where things are not as they initially seem. Teens will also enjoy the fast-paced, action-laden plot and the wealth of details about tricks of the spy trade. Some may find the thicket of English phrases and place-names a little dense, but a glossary at the front of the book will help them sort out vocabulary questions. This second book in the Danny Watts series will pull in plenty of new fans. Todd Morning
