Catherine Robertson is the writer of bestselling chick lit novels. She was born in Wellington and attended Victoria University of Wellington. She left New Zealand for a while to live in San Francisco and Buckinghamshire, but is now back. Her `real job' is owning and running a marketing consultancy toon meer with her husband. Her debut novel, The Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid, hit the New Zealand bestseller list immediately, making its way to number one. She quickly followed up with The Not So Perfect Life of Mo Lawrence. The third volume of her trilogy is called The Misplaced Affections of Charlotte Fforbes. Catherine was a featured author at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair. In 2015 her title The Hiding Places made The New Zealand Best Seller List. (7.5)This continues the with the lives of the residents of Gabriel Bay and their fears and hopes for the future. The chapters are narrated by a variety of townsfolk, each moving the plot along. This completes this trilogy. The characters have grown on me with familiarity, although Mac, remains brash and I couldn't imagine a person like her working on reception at a medical practice, albeit, she was community-minded.
I could imagine this being made into a television series though, with its comedic overtones and yet confronting topical issues.… (meer)

(7.5) This is the second in the Gabriel Bay series and I was in need of a lighter read.
This fitted the bill and I quickly reacquainted myself with this seaside community. I found that there was better character development from the first book.

This was an entertaining enough, lighter read. A very good prologue told from a dog's perspective. Then individual characters become the narrative voice.
Some quite amusing dialogue at times but at others a bit cliched.
