The Kennemerduinen are a national park consisting of a large tract of dunes east of Haarlem (Harlem) at the point where the dunes along the coast of North- Holland are the widest. The dune landscape was took it's definitive form in the Tenth Century, and historical references to management of the landscape go back to the Fourteenth Century. This book provides a comprehensive description of the most conspicuous features of the landscape, it's flora and fauna, written for a wide, general readership. Particularly interesting was the last chapter, which explains the historical sources of the naming of various valleys and hill tops in the area.

The Kennemer Duinen lies at a distance of about 45 kilometres from my hometown, and I have often visited this area.… (meer)
