If you are in search of an author who digs into the messiness of life, look no further. Jennifer Rodewald continuously delivers gut-wrenching emotions in each book she writes, and the Murphy Brothers series has held my heart through each book.

Morning by Morning is Connor Murphy’s second book. If you’re new to the series, you won’t be lost picking up this one, but you will understand so much more about the man Connor is if you read Everything Behind Us. Dubbed Constant Connor by his brothers, he is the dependable, do the right thing brother.

But Connor has suffered a devastating loss and, two years later, he’s still grieving. The last thing he wants is more change in his life. Enter Jade Beck and her daughter and son. Jade is also grieving a loss, but in a much different way than Connor is. Yet, the two are in the midst of exactly what Connor wants least—change.

I was happy to see Matt and Lauren (from book one in the series) again. And appreciated how Matt spoke truth into Connor’s life when he most needed it, helping Connor to see where his resistance to Jade was coming from. The bond the brothers have cultivated over the years through this series is one of the strengths of Rodewald’s writing.

Who You Are by Jennifer Rodewald is the second to last book in the Murphy Brothers series. We’re down to the two youngest brothers.

When Brandon chooses to accept an arranged engagement, he doesn’t anticipate a stubborn, angry, and immature fiancée. She’s not the woman he hoped to meet. But he also acknowledges he’s got some areas to work on in his life.

Brandon’s serious nature and high standards are hard for even his family to live up to (as we saw in the previous book), and it may take some one exactly like Megan to shine the light on the areas he needs to improve on.

There is some great banter between these two as they are at odds with each other. And I appreciated how their initial dislike grows to acceptance to appreciation to more. Even when it seems everything has gone wrong for these two, God’s working His good in their lives.

The Murphy family returns, and this time, one of the middles is in the spotlight. Jennifer Rodewald never fails to bring an emotionally wrenching and compelling story filled with messages of faith and healing to the page.

Tyler has his future planned out—graduate from college, work with his dad, and marry the girl he loves. An accident and addiction change all of that. Rodewald handles Tyler’s addiction to pain killers with truth but also compassion. Readers see the change in Tyler—the excuses, the ugliness of attitude, the pushing people away—but also the pain and disillusion his injury brings him. And the heartbreak.

And then comes the healing. Not only of Tyler’s body but of his soul as he leans into God. Becca is also healing as she charts a new course for her future.

There was so much to love about this book, from Lauren and Becca’s friendship to little Fiona to the romance. But the absolute best, most beautiful part of this book was Tyler’s changed outlook and response to difficulties. As he learns to praise God in gratitude, this faith grows, he becomes an inspiration to others and a better man than he was before his accident. Stubborn Love is a testament to how God can take what we view as the worst event in our lives and turn it into the greatest gift He gives us because it brings us closer to Him.

I have not met a book written by Jennifer Rodewald that I have not liked, but if there was going to be one, This Life is that book. Yet, that was not at all the case with the fourth book in the Murphy Brothers series.

Readers have met Jacob and Kate through the family’s eyes in the previous books, but we haven’t gotten to know them at all until now. There is definitely more than meets the eye here.
As Jacob and Kate trade their luxury condo for a skoolie and meet just the right people, their history is revealed, and I just could not help but root for these two broken and hurting people who felt so alone in their pain and brokenness.

With deep and complex characters, you cannot help but be drawn to, this moving and emotional story about how being stripped of everything we hold important in life opens our eyes to what really matters, to the truest blessings in our lives resonated with me. It’s about finding ourselves and leaning on God when all hope seems lost. About healing.

Everything Behind Us is not an easy read, but oh, what a beautiful journey it takes you on. Connor and Sadie have regrets about the same event but are both trying to move forward.

Sadie carries a lot of regret from decisions she’s made since that event, but necessity has brought her home to Sugar Pine. As Connor and Sadie talk and spend time together, he feels a definitive call in his life.

Connor Murphy is a protector and dutiful. He’s the stable, sure-headed Murphy brother. Sadie’s life is falling apart around her, but she’s a sympathetic character you can’t help but root for. And as they enter into a marriage of convenience, the foundation forms for what might just be a beautiful life if each will let go of the hurts, fears, and uncertainties of their pasts.

Once again, Jennifer Rodewald wrung the emotions from me with her real and imperfect characters and her poignant plot.

The Murphy brothers are back and this time the spotlight is on the resident prankster. Jackson’s attempt at proving to his family he is an adult and more than the jokes he tells or the pranks he pulls backfires in a most colossal way.

Jennifer Rodewald once again delves into the nitty gritty of life, this time with the powerful message that God can take our biggest mistakes—the choices we made in our despair or anger without seeking God first—and turn them into blessings.

I loved Jackson and Mackenzie’s love story. It’s not traditional but it’s beautiful. Jackson steps up to care for his wife (even when he’s kind of blackmailing her to meet his family). He proves his maturity in his patience and persistence when Kenz isn’t sure about any of it. And Mackenzie’s journey is just a poignant as she discovers a love she never experienced—both through God and through Jackson.

There is a reason Rodewald sits at the top of my must-read authors list, and In Spite of Ourselves cements her place there. I can’t wait to see which brother gets himself into a fix next.

I’m always a fan of a friends-to-more story but one from Jennifer Rodewald, one where friendship is born from a most embarrassing situation, is something not to miss.

Lauren and Matt are fun characters. They have a great rapport with each other, including some witty banter and silly nicknames. They are also real. They struggle with things in their life. They’ve both got people in their lives who have used them but they each deal with that in their own way.

Whether she’s writing deep subjects or more light-hearted stories (like Always You), Rodewald always leaves me at the end of her books feeling like I’ve traveled with friends.

And the good news is that there are plenty of Murphy brothers to hang out with in future books. I’m looking forward to finding out who prankster Jackson’s match is and also really want Connor’s peel back some layers on Connor.

“No one can run forever.”

When I Come Home Again is a poignant, emotional, and very satisfying read. I’ve read some of Jennifer Rodewald’s books before, so I knew I’d be getting hit with all the feels and emotions. Rodewald is a master at creating multi-layered, flawed, and relatable characters and throwing them into hard situations. Brenna and Craig are two such characters with a past which ended with pain, misunderstandings, regrets, and heartache. It was very touching to see them go through the tough process of sorting things out and healing their relationship.

“There is beauty in the hard places. Don’t miss the breathtaking wonder because you are too afraid to go through the painful work of getting there.”

Tender messages of forgiveness, healing, hope, and redemption are woven into the story seamlessly and give added depth to it. This is a fantastic start to a new series, Big Prairie Romance. I’m looking forward to more amazing stories in the series. 4.5 stars

Whenever I find Jennifer Rodewald has a new book, I make time in my schedule to read it. She has a way of digging to the gritty heart of the matter and encompassing all that entails. When I Come Home Again (book one in the brand new Big Prairie Romance series) meets that high standard I’ve come to expect from this author.

Life isn’t always easy. Plans fall apart—both because of the choices we make and because of life’s circumstances. And things really fell apart for high school and college sweethearts Brenna Blaum and Craig Erickson. Seven years later, Craig’s return to Big Prairie means both he and Brenna are going to have to examine their roles in why their relationship collapsed.

This is a book about the dangers of holding on to resentment. It stagnates us in our relationships {with others and with God) and mires us in the past. It takes awareness, acknowledgment, repentance, grace, and forgiveness to release us from dwelling in the past in order to embrace God’s plans.

There is ugliness in our human, sin nature but beauty in how God grows us through our trials and pain. And Rodewald encapsulates both of those sides beautifully in this story.

Ordinary Snowflakes by Jennifer Rodewald
Sydney can't wait for the Snowflake Party at school and she loves the things her teacher has tuaght them all about autumn.
Her mother finds the driveway plowed of snow and a box that she scoops up and puts in her purse.
We learn about Kale's past and how her signifacant other had just left with Sydney came down very sick...she's a special needs child wearing braces on her legs and she jsut witnessed her going down a hill on a sled and crashing at the end.
The male at the bottom and Joe the therapist had OKed it. Her music teacher Mr. Erickson crosses their path again and invites them to the farm and they will all go the next day.
Kale knows she needs to make amends with Joe also but is checking on her parents with a picnic lunch that they can walk to.
Love hearing of the Rock Creek traditions, so cool!
Kale is very confused about which one: Joe or Craig has left her the secret Santa gift of the snowflake and who keeps shoveling snow from her drive.
Other works by the author are highlighted at the end along with a note from her.
Received this review copy from the author via bookfunnel and this is my honest opinion.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Didn't realize when I started reading this book that it was about addiction. I have gone through addictions of my own, with food, and know how addictions can take over a life and change the direction. I could really relate to the characters, and the characteristics of each individual. I really look forward to more books by this author.

“Marriage isn’t a math problem where fifty-fifty makes a hundred. It’s like those races you love. You lay it all down, never knowing how it’s going to turn out. Some days you win, and it’s awesome. Sometimes you crash, and it’s ugly. Either way, you’re putting it all out there, everything you’ve got.”

What an incredible book. This is the first contemporary romance I’ve read written by Jennifer Rodewald and I am hooked. I know this is the third book in the series and I didn’t read the first two books; this can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I will surely visit the other two books soon though. Anyone who enjoys a well-written and heart-jolting contemporary romance will LOVE this book.

Jennifer Rodewald once again delivers a beautifully written and complex novel that exposes raw, authentic, and heart-wrenching emotions. She speaks to the heart about what true love is and how a marriage can be selfish in its infancy but how it can be turned around for God’s glory. She brings together two very broken, hurting people to show us the sin and ugliness of our hearts without God and grace. I love this quote from Brandi, one of the main characters: “I know some things now that I didn’t know before. Grace is mine if I’m willing to kneel under it. I can give it if I live and love in it. This is my new battle cry, to live and love in grace. And in that battle, I’m fighting for you.” So powerful.

The main characters Brandi and Ethan are polar opposites and newlyweds. They both have much emotional baggage that they have not unpacked and start their marriage with a foster daughter who has been through too much for an eleven year old. As their world falls apart, they move through anger, selfish accusations, and blame until they both individually reach rock bottom and allow God to work in them. Their journey twisted my heart, reached deep down into my soul, and made me cry every chapter. Their struggles in marriage reminded me of my struggles at the beginning of ours....and made me also realize how powerful God’s grace and mercy indeed are to have morphed my marriage into something sustainable, stable, and solid from the mess I was and still am.

“Love was hard. Fierce. Sometimes a battle. And yet beautiful. It was evergreen.”

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Jennifer Rodewald is amazing! I went into this book with an open mind and heart, as I wasn’t quite sure what I would get out of the story. Ms. Rodewald is a new-to-me author and I tend to be cautious when I start their books. Boy, was I ever surprised! The emotions that filled me after reading this book! It definitely had all the feels.

I felt all of Suzanna’s emotions. Her heart ache, her struggles, all of them were mine. I could relate to her well created, complexity of character. My walk with God hasn’t always been an easy one, and I feel that with Suzanna and her life as she comes to terms with the events of her life. Like she could learn to trust in Him just a little more and her walk in life would be easier. I loved that. Being able to relate to the main character is one of the bonuses of a well written book.

Let’s not forget Paul! I loved him. Bless him, he was truly a wonderful, God fearing man and as he learned more about Suzanna, I could feel the turmoil in his heart as he struggled with what to do! I just wanted to hug him!

I’ll tell you now that you need to grab a copy of this book. You’ll be taken on a roller coaster of emotions as you follow the story. The characters will make a permanent home in your heart and Ms. Rodewald’s writing style will leave you in awe. I definitely give this book high praises and 4.5 stars worth of recommendations! I can’t wait to read another amazing book by this author.

Wow! I wish more books allowed us to feel this connected with all the characters. It's a story of survival in a sense. Suzanna has been dealt a rather harsh hand in life: a mother who left, a father and husband dead, and it seems that the whole town hates her. She doesn't exactly hold God in the highest respect because all she sees are the negatives: death, doom, gloom, etc. She doesn't see the beauty of God or the wonders of God. It takes a wonderful neighbor (and single guy to boot!) to rethink her ideas.

Paul is good for her. He's good TO her (which is what she desperately needs when you have a mother who doesn't think much of you). He shows her what love really is and how God loves us. Love isn't just a mushy feeling. It's not fireworks. Love is action. Love is commitment. Love is the ability to look through the bad times and still find good.

It's an excellent book that reminds you that God is love.
