I read it ALL and I passed my NCE exam. I can't say there's a causal relationship with the two but you're likely to do pretty well if you take a ride with Howard, even if his humor is grating.

I felt that the question-and-answer technique is a great way to test myself on concepts (especially keeping in mind that everything for this test is supposed to be a 'review'...), however, since many of the terms and people were NOT review for me, it was overwhelming in certain chapters to 'miss' so many questions.

My strategy for a test book like this is to use a post it as a way to mark which questions I missed, so that if I were to go back through it (as I plan to do before the CPCE in March and the NCE in April), I can look at the questions I missed easily and I won't have written in the book to make it impossible for me to re-ask myself a question.

I will say that I feel Rosenthal is a bit full of himself (I'm using this book in conjunction with his audio program and his Dictionary of Human Services) and I feel every page (or track) is a congratulations to himself about what a good program he has developed to review. Having been through the entire audio program, it's not much different from his book (although he claims it is), and the Dictionary is NOT as comprehensive as I would expect/hope. For example: he will mention a theorist or counselor in his book, and when trying to look up the theory or theorist, it will not be in his dictionary--which is frustrating.

But it is a lot of information in a small space, so it is worth your time in preparing for this tests. Three weeks to go for me!

Done and test passed! I used this as well as the audio program to study. I feel there is more than enough information between the two to get a passing grade.
