Charlie Piechart and the Case of the Missing Pizza Slice was a good book! I like how this book integrated math with reading. This book was about a family who order a large pizza for dinner. When they realized one slice was missing, Charlie became a detective and was determined to figure out who took the missing slice. The book explained fractions throughout the entire book and showed the fraction of the pizza that was left since one slice was missing. It should the amount each person would now get in fractions and I especially loved how at the end of the book it had a practice sheet for fractions! Did Watson, the family dog, take the missing slice of pizza? Read to find out! I would use this book in my class to teach my students about fractions!

I thought this was a clever and playful story. Charlie and his family are trying to decide what toppings they want on their pizza. Each person has an opinion on what toppings they like and dislike which is presented in fractions. When the pizza arrives, Charlie has to solve the case of the missing pizza slice. I like how the author takes a simple and relatable situation like ordering pizza and winds fractions and math within the story. I also really loved the unique retro feel of the illustrations. This would be a fun, interactive book when teaching fractions.

P. J. Funnybunny is unhappy being a rabbit, so he tries being various other animals. In the end, he realizes that a bunny is the best animal for him to be because a bunny is who he is. The overall theme is to be content with who you are.

This book tells a tale of two siblings and PJ the older brother is constantly teasing and playing tricks on his little sister, Honey Bunny. She is patient and puts up with all of his tricks. Tricks like pouring orange juice on her cereal or painting her face at night time. The parents finally had enough of PJ’s tricks and teases and made it all stop. Things were normal and Honey Bunny felt sad and lonely because she missed him and thought he didn’t love her anymore.

Tony Baroni loves macaroni so much that he eats it for every meal! His Nonna, or Grandma, tries to persuade Tony to eat a variety of other pastas in order to have him eat something else until he finally decides to eat something different entirely. This is such a light hearted book with some very beautiful illustrations! My three-year-old loved this book, and also loves macaroni! It was fun to interact with my daughter while reading this book because she was introduced to lots of different kinds of pastas she had never heard of before. We went to the store and saw some that were mentioned. This makes the book more than a book and into an interactive experience. I highly recommend it!

Gwen, the hen, has laid her eggs but tells the soon-to-be father, Red Rooster, that it is bad luck to count your eggs before they hatch. Soon one egg hatches and proud Red Rooster goes to Worm World to buy a worm for his new chick. When he gets back, however, more chicks hatch requiring Red Rooster to make several trips back and forth to Worm World to buy additional worms as more and more chicks hatch at different intervals. This early reader is also a wonderful, fun, engaging read aloud with bright, clear pictures that will have kids laughing, counting, adding and learning.

PJ doesn't wan to be a bunny anymore because he's tired of eating carrots, he hates his big, floppy ears, and he has too many siblings. So, he leaves his family and joins first the bear family, then the bird family, and so on. The story is cute, and the illustrations fun, but overall, the book is underwhelming.

This book is about a bee who cannot help a cow by himself so he decides to get the word out to as many farm animals as possible. He searched everywhere in order to find more friends to help him out. I could use this book to talk about the different farm animals that were mentioned and what their purpose is on a farm. I could also use this book to talk about friendship and ask students to talk about ways they have helped each other out in the past and can continue to do so for the future.

Summary:

It's Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler is about a bunny who's name is Funnybunny. He does not want to be a bunny anymore. He decided to be a bear, a bird, a beaver, a pig, a moose, a possum, and a skunk. Funnybunny decides, after trying to be everything other than a bunny, he is better off being a bunny. He decides being a bunny really isn't as bad as he once thought it would be.

Personal Reaction:

I really enjoy this story. This story shows that you may not know how good you have it until you get out of your situation. Then you realize that you really don't have it as bad as you believed it was. I have stressful situations and at times I believe it cannot get any worse but if I get out of my bubble, I realize that I really have it made I just need to take a break. This book really shows that.

Classroom Extension:

1. Explain to the students that in life there are going to be things they do not like but that one situation can open up doors to several others that they do like.

2. Have the students tell me something they do not like for example being an only child, or having too many siblings. Explain to the children, with siblings, that if they didn't have their siblings when they wanted to play a game they wouldn't have anyone to play with, and those who are only child, explain to them that they don't have to share a room and will have more time with their parents.

Have not read the first. ?áA cute simple story of how PJ seems naughty compared to his family, but when they have a truly rascally young guest, the family realizes that PJ is just a happy little boy. ?áA little long as it's and early reader and says words extra times to give the student practice. ?á

This book was very cute. I thought that the illustrations were awesome and really did a wonderful job of telling the story. This was another book that I felt could have been wordless. The illustrations did a fabulous job of portraying the written text. The story is about P.J. Funnybunny and his opposition of being a bunny. Throughout the book, P.J. went on an adventure to try to live the life of different animals. Throughout the book the reader will notice a very repetitive theme, "I don't want to be a ____. I want to be a..." This gives the reader the inclination that there is another animal that P.J. is going to try to be. This give the reader the opportunity to make a prediction of what P.J. will be next! The message within this story is that everyone is unique, be proud of who you are. It takes P.J. a few times of trial and error to figure this out, but after living with the bears, the birds, the beavers, the pigs, the moose, the possums, and the skunks, he realizes what he really wants is to live with his bunny family and be himself again. Once P.J. is back home he no longer takes for granted the things he disliked about his family before. He eats his cooked carrots, he plays with his brothers and sisters, and he is proud of his big ears! I think Marilyn Sadler does a great job getting the message across to the readers. This book would be categorized as a modern fantasy because the animals are given human-like qualities. Overall I think this was a great story.

This is a wonderful children’s book that I read when I was younger. Marilyn Sadler did an amazing job writing about P.J. Funnybunny and how he did not like being a bunny and wanted to try to be other animals like a bear, a skunk, and a moose. The illustrations enhance the story where children can see P.J. try to be other animals and then realize he is perfect the way he is; as a bunny. This story would be good to teach children to be happy being themselves. The moral within the story is strong and this book could also be used to teach a lesson about animals and repetition.
