Although I am not Japanese, I easily identified with the culture and people in the book. It was an enjoyable read; the author accurately talks about the dilemma Sachie faces living between American and Japanese cultures and trying to decide where she fits.
One exception I take with the book is that Sachie would have spoken Japanese at home, and English in school, but outside of those two places, she would have spoken pidgin English (Hawaiian Creole, a language in itself). But no mention of that was made by the author. As a result, I felt that the story was a bit incomplete.
I also found a typo (ukelele instead of 'ukulele).
Those things aside, however, I enjoyed the book and felt the author did a good job describing Japanese culture.… (meer)
