The contents consists of tales of Murder in the Town and County as in 'The Michaelmas Fair Murder','The Green Door of Jealousy','The Butcher of Dychurch Lane','Charwelton Murder','The Bonfire Night Blaze Murder' and 'The Boxing Day Murder'.
The rest of the book is divided between stories of Ghosts and the remainder are about Legends and general stories of local interest,such as 'The Valley of Death and Lord Cardigan'. Cardigan of course led the unfortunate and ill-advised Charge of the Light Brigade and lived at Deene Park in Northamptonshire.In a glass case to the centre of the Great Hall is the Head and Tail of Roland,the horse that cardigan rode on that fateful day. Years ago I was able to see this head,and I can assure you that it is a most unsettling experience.
