A debut picture-book from author Victoria M. Sanchez, Pilar's Worries addresses a deeper emotional concern than shyness or stage fright, although those both play a role in the story. It is intended to grapple with anxiety, something the afterword makes plain with its discussion of children who suffer from this problem, and its list of resources to help them. The story is engaging, and the illustrations by Jess Golden, whose work is known to me from The Wheels on the Tuk Tuk, are appealing. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about anxiety, as well as to those searching for ballet picture-books that feature young Latina dancers.… (meer)
