My Sweet Boy door Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs
Just like the title, this is a sweet book. It gives a different view of boyhood and that a boy doesn’t have to be snakes and snails and puppy dog tails. Boys can be sweet like sugar and steady and calm and all those things that don’t begin in toxic masculinity.

I understand the need for this story. Masking has declined and there will come a time when it needs to heat up again. I like the artwork; it’s bright, it’s colorful, and grabs your attention. The book rhymes but because of the way the stanzas are written on the pages it doesn’t facilitate those rhymes very well. Some of the rhymes are spot on, some are harsh, but overall it’s not too bad it just needs an adjustment and text layout.

A Girl Named Rainbow door Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs
This is a beautifully drawn children’s illustrated book about a young girl called Rainbow who comes to accept and be proud of the uniqueness of her name. This was really well written and such a feel-good read! There were some rhymes in the book which I wish had been more consistent. I think this is great representation to have for children who do have unique names because bullying is way too common and it can feel so isolating. So I know this will be an invaluable book for them to see themselves in! Respecting a persons name is such an integral part of respecting someone for who they are so it’s important for all kids to learn this.

It was such a good idea and the need for a mask and handwashing is well presented with delightful illustrations. But. It would have been SO much better if it gave credence to the need to utilize for colds and flu as well as Covid. This BSN/mother/grandmother requested and received an ebook copy from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley.
