Wildlife Heroes: 40 Leading Conservationists and… door Julie Scardina
This book seemed to be more about quantity than quality. Not to take away anything from the 40 people profiled; they've all done wonderful work. But each profile was little more than a sketch and brief outline of the work that each of these wildlife heroes have accomplished. If the goal of the author Julie Scardinia, was to get their message out there, then she at least accomplished that.
Strengths: . describes animals at risk, what makes them important
. explains what people do to protect and rehabilitate them
. includes websites at back of book for further info
Weaknesses: . shallow treatment of the cute and the furry
. absence of maps
. information on how to help is spare and seems to emphasize
donations
Why I would recommend this book: Concerned people want to know what they can do to help. This book gives examples. It encourages young people to become scientists or to contribute in any number of ways.… (meer)
