Following the classic alphabet format (A is for Apple) this book introduces young readers to strong, independent, and yes, rad women. There was a good mix of women I'd heard of, and ones I wasn't completely familiar with. A great addition to any library.

Awesome idea. Has women from all different backgrounds that affected all different areas of life for those around them and future generations. (sports, academics, education, law, science, activism, etc.)
There's a woman for each letter of the alphabet. Some are from back in history and some are still alive today.

"An international array of badass women through the ages and up to the present.

Though Schatz reaches back to Enheduanna, the first named author in history, and Pharaoh Hatshepsut, most of the nearly 300 women she names have shown their courage and convictions within the past century or so. Most are just names (with country of origin), but she selects around 60 for admiring profiles. Some are such familiar figures as Frida Kahlo and Malala Yousafzai, but many more are likely to be new to most, and not just younger, readers, such as Colombian street artist Bastardilla, British punk trailblazer Poly Styrene, and Dame Katerina Te Heikoko Mataira, a leader in the modern revival of Maori language and culture. The author also pays tribute to groups, such as the first 14 Madres de la Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, the six women charged with inventing ENIAC’s initial programming, and, poetically, the millions of stateless refugees. Arranged in a rough geographical order, the profiles open with tagline quotes, plus black-and-white-paper portraits based on photos or historical images, and run to one or two double-columned pages in length. Though an afterword lays claim to much research and personal contact, there are no specific sources cited. Still, it’s clear enough that these women lead or led “awesome, exciting, revolutionary, historic, and world-changing lives.”

More inspiration than documentation but definitively global in scope, a happy contrast to so many Eurocentric “world” surveys. (Collective biography. 11-15)" From Kirkus Reviews, www.kirkusreviews.com

If there was a way to give more than five stars I would. I was so enraptured to see the variety of women included in this book, describing the history of my country in a way that is rarely done. This should be on everyone's - parent, teacher, and human - shelf .

I liked the wide mix of women in this book, though I would have loved if they could have included a disability advocate as well. It's a great primer and would be perfect for homework or research projects because it's not boring/dry.

Reading about 40 rad women from around the world definitely lifts up a girl's spirit. If you thought that this is a man's world and women cannot reach places, this book will make you realize that women have done great things and can do so in the future as well.

Before reading this book, I knew only 10 of the 40 women listed. It was great to learn about others. This book left me with awe and an "I can reach my goals no matter what" attitude.

I did feel that a lot of amazing women were left out, but that is bound to happen when you try to fit in people from different fields and different parts of the world. Still, I did like the diversity. I would highly recommend this book.

Note: I'd like to thank the publisher for giving me a free copy of this book. This review is my personal opinion and has not been influenced in anyway by anyone.

I loved the author's "Rad Women Worldwide" and was excited to pick this book. This is one inspiring journal. The kind that wants you to sit down and pen your thoughts, motivate you when you are feeling down, rekindle your inner passion, and also ponder about your dreams and ambitions in life. The quotes and illustrations are awesome. The list of rad women in the journal at the end was helpful. Bear in mind that this is not a book of quotes, but a journal with quotes peppered here and there. I would highly recommend this!

Note: I received a free ARC ebook from the publisher. The opinions and ratings here are my own and have not been influenced in any way.

This is a a book I wish I'd had as a kid, but I'm thrilled to have found it now. I have and will continue to give it to girls in my life. Representation matters.

I bought this book thinking it would be an analysis of a classic album like the others in the series; but it's a dreary soft porn novel supposedly inspired by the album. I read the first twenty pages then decided that enough was enough.½

What a great collection of accomplished women- artists, activists, athletes, entertainers, thinkers, and doers. Each brief biography efficiently tells what each woman is famous for and why they are considered heroes today, all in an engaging manner that will pique curiosity. The true measure of any alphabet book is how they deal with X. "X is for the women whose names we don't know" is probably one of the most elegant I've ever seen.

While this book will certainly be of interest to adults and teens, I see no reason why it couldn't also be in an elementary library.

This is a book filled with women who have been "the first" or "the best" at their niche, whether it be politics, art, dace, athletics and so on. This is a good book for older children who are looking for influential women in history. Each page has a short biography on the woman.

From activist Angela Davis, to dancer Isadora Duncan to the more well-known Zora Neal Hurston, this book brings to life so many amazing women! It is formatted so that every time you turn the page you learn about another woman whose name starts with the next letter in the alphabet. What I love most about this book is that these women have such different stories, different backgrounds and a variety of talents but are all incredibly powerful in their own ways. The illustrator, Miriam Klein Stahl, did an impeccable job using one bold color for the background to highlight the black and white rendition of each woman. For any young girl that needs some inspiration I would highly recommend this book.

I am recommending this book not just because it's simplistic format and colorful illustrations but because it's also a great resource to introduce young readers to some of the extraordinary women of history who may be often overlooked. The women represented are listed in this book alphabetically, A is for activist Angela Davis and Z is for author Zora Neale Hurston, from diverse factions. There is even a clever entry for the letter X as the women who's stories have been lost to history and as an "X marks the spot" for where we stand to contribute our own story to this rad history. This book is perfect for middle school and elementary kids doing a biography project or just looking to gain some information on new subjects, the entries are written in a manner that's easy to read and don't bog the reader down with details.

Rad Women Worldwide is amazing compilation of powerful and influential women worldwide who have made great contributions to their communities and notable achievements in history. The book is a great way to learn more about and brush up on global feminist history. From Malala Yousafzai to Junko Tabei, and even Venus & Serena Williams it provides a wide variety of women from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and countries.

I absolutely loved this book and it broadened my knowledge of women’s history even further. I am more familiar with feminists in the US than across the globe and by reading this book I learned about some amazing women that I previously knew nothing about as well as more information about women that I have studied and admire wholeheartedly. I also feel that this book could be used as an helpful educational resource for classrooms.

I think that Schatz and did a fantastic job of teaching readers and convey these women and life’s work to a wide audience readers. Stahl’s abstract artwork is simplistic, but I found it to be visually appealing and the brightly colored backgrounds allow her drawings to pop off the page. To learn about even more influential women check out their other book Rad American Women A-Z.

This book is a quick, fun read that seems intended for middle-schoolers (with quick definitions of words like 'apartheid') but is enjoyable for anyone older and interested in female revolutionaries. Each vignette is one or two pages and includes a paper-cut portrait. The book is a nice way to briefly learn about a lot of different women from vastly different places. The stories span from Enheduanna in ancient Mesopotamia to the tennis champion Williams sisters. Overall, a fun read to get a broad feel for feminism worldwide and throughout history. Recommended for grades 6 and up.

I loved this book and how it was set up. This book offers a way to describe and show you the lives of many women who all helped shape America into what it is today. I enjoyed reading this book because there were so many women I did not know about that did such remarkable things. This could be very good for any person of any gender or race to read. I would recommend to everyone and their Mother.

This is the journal you've been waiting for!

(Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book for review through Blogging for Books.)

-- 4.5 stars --

I was lucky enough to snag a review copy of Rad Women Worldwide, part of Kate Schatz and Miriam Klein Stahl's "rad women" series, which began with 2015's Rad American Women A-Z: Rebels, Trailblazers, and Visionaries who Shaped Our History . . . and Our Future! From concept to execution, I adored Rad Women Worldwide, and was over the moon with excitement when I saw that they'd be releasing a journal based on the books.

My Rad Life is (almost!) everything I'd hoped for: fun, stylish, interactive, and diverse af. Miriam Klein Stahl's artwork is bold and arresting; her simple yet elegant black and white portraits of badass women - from Gloria Steinem to Beyoncé, bell hooks to Shirley Chisholm - provide a lovely and inspirational backdrop for journaling. The art is accompanied by thought-provoking quotes, many of which are used as a jumping-off point for prompts to get the creative juices flowing.

The format is a nice mix of guided and free-form pages: some pages are completely blank; others feature funky, hand-drawn lines (way more interesting than college-ruled spacing!);

and many include a blend of portraits, quotes, and prompts, leaving enough space for scribbling, writing, or drawing.

Unlike the rad women books, My Rad Life: A Journal is softcover. Though it's lovely, with an embossed logo and everything, I do find myself missing the hardcover from Rad Women Worldwide, which was all kinds of gorgeous (and also more durable). I'd also love it if the journal had that special "lay flat" binding, to make it easier to write in the book. My handwriting is messy enough without having to struggle against the journal. :)

This would make an excellent give for tweens and young adults, particularly those with a budding interest in feminism and women's history (package it with Rad American Women A-Z and Rad Women Worldwide to make an awesome little gift set). That said, it's suitable for humans of all ages and gender expressions; I'm barrelling towards forty and loved it just the same.
