I don’t read a lot of fiction but the story line of this series caught my attention. I bought the first one and was then compelled to buy the other two to find out what happened next (the second book was the best)… I read the whole series of three novellas in a few days and am hoping the author will get stuck in and write the next one!

The purpose of the author in writing this series appeals to me. He is attempting to highlight how current decisions by the powers-that-be could impact future generations in a massively negative manner especially for those of us who are Christians. More specifically, how the advance of technology will likely lead to a climate of fear as everything we do, say and think will be monitored and controlled; how individuality will be completely lost as we become akin to robots and clones with politically correct opinions that mirror each other. The writing is creative and imaginative and the very real warnings are cleverly built into the narrative as the drama unfolds.

The author is clear that his writing is not in any way prophetic but just an idea of what could happen if things continue as they are. I would suggest that this series should be a call to Christians to firstly wake up, and then to stand up for Biblical truth where Christian values are being eroded, and where society is heading down a dangerous path of no return.

There are some typos, mainly where words are repeated but this doesn’t affect the readability. The book is clean; free of bad language, sexual content and gratuitous violence. There Is some low level violence but nothing off-putting.

Recommended for all readers, but especially for those who want something to contemplate.

This is definitely the best book I have read in a long time. I bought it after reading other books by the author and enjoying them but this book is something special.

There are two stories running simultaneously through alternating chapters. This may sound confusing, but I found that it was easy to remember what was happening in both stories at the same time. This style had the unusual effect of holding the readers interest even more than a typical book because if part of one of the stories lost its appeal for a while you would keep reading for the other one. The stories were completely separate but along similar lines with similar subject matter.

The purpose of the author is to highlight persecution of Christians in different ages and to show that although the manner and method has changed the outcome may ultimately be the same for each one of us. We could and should be prepared to lose everything for our Christian faith. We need to be alert and cannot "hide our light under a bowl."

The first story dates back to the Anabaptist movement a few centuries ago. It details the conversion (from Roman Catholicism) and subsequent persecution of a man named Peter. This story moved me to tears several times. The last scene is particularly harrowing but also beautiful for the Christian reader. I found myself seriously challenged by the unwritten question throughout this tale...would I have had the courage to stand up for the truth, never to tell a lie...even a seemingly innocuous one...in the face of torture or maybe even death? The story is so well researched and written that I at times felt afraid that God may also demand the ultimate sacrifice of me one day....

The second story is set in modern day America and concerns a "Pastor Daniel" and his family. Things start to get politically complicated when Daniel starts making changes in his church; changes that are Biblical (due to his convictions after finding an old dusty book that challenges him) but nevertheless unpopular with his congregation. What will Pastor Daniel do when he ends up in court, charged with an offence related to terrorism due to a message he preached from his pulpit? There were many things in this story that highlighted dangerous trends in churches and sadly in church leaders today. The author has incredible insight and relays events that could so easily become a reality for any Christian preacher. He also alludes to the more serious nature of the bigger threat looming behind these types of events...but I won't spoil that for you.

This book is clean and free of bad language and sexual content. There is some necessary violence in the Anabapist's story which is quite graphic and distressing in places and for this reason I would not recommend this book for children. However, I would highly recommend this book to everyone else as it is a "must" read.
