meh - There was a beautiful story in there but it was drowned out by the way it was written. It almost read as though two people wrote this. It was very uneven and the second voice, which I found jarring and took me out of the story, dominated more as the book went on. I wonder how much of that was from where the author deviated from the source myth.

I was really excited to get this one. The cover is beautiful and I was vaguely familiar with some of the names, having worked with a Hindi woman at one time. However, I was disappointed once I started the book. I could not seem to get connected with the book. I picked it up several times, getting a little farther each time, but could never stay with it. I do plan to pick it up again later this summer and hope this time it will click for me.

The Secret of Enduring Love is about the journey of Damayanti, an Indian princess, towards the secret of enduring love. The book was beautifully written however in some instances I just really cannot understand some concepts in the story. I also find it quite long, the author may have simplified some parts but other than that I recommend this to everyone specially to those who love Hindu mythology.

I received this book free in return for a review.

Unfortunately, I hadn’t realized that this was a work of fiction, and thus not really my favourite type of read, and I was unable to get through the book.

However, I found it to be beautifully written and to be a wonderful romance about a beautiful Indian princess named Damayanti who wishes to learn the secret of enduring love.

Great Swan (a female swan) becomes her guru and Princess Damayanti is told that she must study men, and travels with the swans on this quest.

She learns that she must let go of the compulsive need to have your existence validated by the man of your dreams” She must learn to recognize herself as worthy of a place in the universe “independent of any man”. Practically all the women I know need to learn this so the book has a valuable lesson for us.

We also learn that males seek love within “their feminine counterparts instead of the love inside themselves”.

We are introduced to the various deities, including Brahma, Creator of the Universe, Shakti, the Goddess of Cosmic Love, and Shiva, the Destroyer of the Universe.

Damayanti must pass through seven inner gateways in order to learn the secret of enduring love.

Though this book was not for me, I’m sure it will interest, perhaps even fascinate, those interested in “romance”, Indian/Vedic deities/culture and spiritual truth, and they will be able to extract much wisdom from it.
