This is a rather predictable "two strangers meet and pretend to be engaged because of spur-of-the-moment reasons and then have to keep the pretense up a lot longer than they planned" book. But being predictable doesn't make it less enjoyable. It's written as diary entries from Pam, an inexperienced, honest, enthusiastic girl. She has some well written thoughts. But Pam knows that her fake fiancée is bitter about women and had wanted to marry a beautiful society girl who jilted him. She assumes that those two could still get together and tries to efface herself and let that happen. That gets frustrating because of the miscommunication. But it's a short book, meaning one doesn't have to bear with the angst for too long. If you get a kick out of stories with this general plot, you'll like it. It's on Project Gutenberg.
