This touching, powerful, and poetic story follows the story of a young slave who just wants to be free. Chains were put on him after he tried to escape slavery once, but that did not stop him. He found the opportunity and escaped with his chain around his ankle. His journey leads him to a sick little boy whom he cares for while they run for their freedom. This unlikely friendship turns into a father/ son relationship. Once in the land of the free, the young child touches the man's ankle, thus giving him his freedom.

The book Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten by Joseph Slate is a fun alphabet book. The book is about Miss Bindergarten and her class getting ready for the first day of school. It goes through each students name, in alphabetical order. There are three reasons why I liked this book. First, I thought that it was a very engaging alphabet book. It was not the typicaly just listing a few letters on the page along with a story, but instead it had the alphabet letters at the beginning of students names. The second reason I liked it ties with the first, I liked how each letter was written bigger and in a different color compared to the rest of the text. Lastly, I liked the illustrations of the book and I enjoyed how each character was a different kind of animal.

"Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten" is an alphabet picture book. The book has main characters as animals and is a cute read for young children learning their letters. The emphasized letter on that page in enlarged and in a different color and each activity the teacher does to get ready had a different emphasized letter. I would recommend this book for ages 3-6. I would use this book in my classroom because I think it is any easy read for children to follow along with and I also, think students can easily relate to the storyline.½

This book contains parallel storylines that eventually come together at the end. This story is about Miss Bindergarten and her students getting ready for the first day of kindergarten. In the story Miss Bindergarten is getting her classroom and herself ready for her students to show up on the first day. This story also portrays several of Miss Bindergarten’s students getting ready for their first day of school. It shows the different students doing different things in their morning routine like brushing their teeth or putting on shoes. Once all of the routines are finished, then the storyline begins to intertwine and the students come to Miss Bindergarten’s class, and the journey begins. I also really enjoyed this story because it shows both perspectives. I think a of students get the impression that teachers don't have to get ready for school. This text shows that teachers in fact do have to get ready for school and get ready for the school year.

This book is for poetry lovers! This follows the journey of a young man, whose escape from slavery led to him becoming a foster father. This book ends with an act kindness returning an act of kindness which is a much needed message in this day.

"Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten" is a picture book that can be used for guided reading. The book goes through the letters of the alphabet, while telling the story of Miss Bindergarten and her kindergarten class. It uses short phrases for each letter such as "Danny Hess rushes to dress" and "Emily Moko cools her cocoa." Each beginning uses a bold letter to highlight the fact that it is going over the alphabet. This can be helpful to use for shared reading because the teacher can have the students read the letters of the alphabet while they are reading the story. The book also uses predictable phrases such as "Miss Kindergarten gets ready for kindergarten," which is said after every three letters. The book would be best with younger grades, but the predictable phrases will help the students to read those phrases with the teacher.

Plot-wise, it doesn't seem to have any sort of logical story progression. I think this should be important even in early reader books.

A favorite of my three year old granddaughter. So much to notice and talk about on every page. I love the two parallel story lines that merge when Miss Bindergarten welcomes the class.

As Miss B gets ready to celebrate the one-hundredth day of school with her kindergarten class, she is filled with excitement and joy. She decorates her class and assigns everyone to bring in 100 of their favorite items. The class celebrates the 100th day of school will creative games, activities, and style. Reading about Miss B, truly showed me the hard work that teachers put in. In the beginning of the book her class was missing decorations and activities for the 100th day of school. By the end of the book, not a single space of the classroom was uncovered with something that said 100 on it. She worked so hard for her students to enjoy and grasp the concept of 100. The creativity and art work really stood out to me in this book. The amount of detail it took to draw the diversity of animals was incredible to see. I also like the way the alphabet was also being taught when reading this book. Each letter of the alphabet was written in bold and color. The letters also described the personality of each student in the class. I felt like I was part of Miss B's class after reading it because I knew so much about her students. The author did a great job at describing the multiple learning areas addressed in kindergarten that were portrayed in this book. Overall, this was a great book and showered me with many ideas for the day my class celebrates the 100th day of school.

While Miss Bindergarten prepares for the start of the school year in kindergarten, the book goes through her students and their activities. Each students name starts with a letter of the alphabet. The letter is highlighted by color and boldness.

The children go on a field trip with Miss Bindergarten. As the day goes by, Each student is recognized. It is in alphabetical order of animals. Most of the letters went along with the first letter of each animal. This book shoes how exciting children are on field trips. Also, it shows how worried they can be when they lose someone. This story teaches rhyme, shapes, alphabet, and animals.½

Genre: Fantasy/ Age: Primary (Kindergarten)
We watch as all the kindergarteners get ready to go to their first day of class. We also follow the kindergarten teacher as she prepares her classroom.
It is a good fantasy book because all the characters are animals that go into a routine for school. All though typically animals don't talk or wear clothes, all the children do.
Use:
1) What are routines and why do we have them?
2) Communicate about how the first day of class may have felt for each of the students
