You'd have to be very interested in tropical agriculture to get very far with this book; I wanted to quit many times, but finally finished. It's exhaustively researched, with historical information on the introduction and development of the species as a crop as well as the existence of gene banks for the species and near relatives, and the natural history and range of the species and near relatives. I learned a few things about food (cashew nuts come from cashew apples), and about plant breeding, during the months it took to read it.
