"Dependence leads to delusion, indeed."
Most people perceive entrepreneurship as too risky... that there's no guarantee of success, so it's safer to settle for a job... Well, that's what I feel about jobs today - they're too risky! In today's work environment, you can be hired one day, fired the next."
The Author gives information for enhancing the experience of independence in several areas of one's life, including financially and lifestyle-wise. The ways that government has given freely to people who do not feel like working in order to get ahead of their own inability to create a productive life or to get out of debt are mentioned, and we are encouraged not to fall into the trap of whining about the state of the economy, and the apparent unfairness of things for the mediocre person who aspires for nothing more than carrying debt throughout life, but rather to take personal responsibility for one's action for experiencing independence. the title of this book bothers me. an us-vs-them approach is the foundation of this title. we don't need to be comparing ourselves to others in this instance. alternative and more relevant titles would instead be:
"how to bounce instead of breaking"
"make conditions safe before overbalancing and falling and breaking"
"work at a safe height so you can land safely"
because the current implication of the very telling title is:
"bounce while watching others fail".

when some one bounces, we all bounce. when someone breaks, we all break. preventing falling in the first place is for the greater good. helping others to bounce while we are bouncing is for the greater good, because we all bounce sometimes and break sometimes; we would sure hope for help from someone who is bouncing when we are breaking, instead of them bouncing on ahead after they've read the top ten rules of this book… (meer)
