I like how these books have so much thoughtful advice on how to handle conflict woven throughout the story. Amar'e is an exceptionally good kid, with an exceptionally supportive crew -- both family and friends, but he puts that background to good use,and spreads the good around. This book is mostly one fast paced basketball play after another, but the story holds together well, and the action keeps the book moving. Lot of heart. I do wish they'd lose occasionally, because I'd like to see how they handle it.

Also, the books in this series stand alone really well -- awesome.

So boring and poorly written, it's not worth my time to comment further, other than to recommend two much better books: [b: A Whole New Ballgame|20620670|A Whole New Ballgame|Caryn Rose|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1390448596s/20620670.jpg|39904824] or [b: Athlete vs. Mathlete|15792869|Athlete vs. Mathlete (Athlete vs. Mathlete, #1)|W.C. This is a new series, written by basketball star Amar'e Stoudemire and seem to be largely autobiographical. The story is simple, easy to follow, the characterization is fairly strong, given the target audience. It has a goody-goody feel to it that might hamper its appeal to the readers it is aimed at. It focuses on being proud of who you are and being someone to be proud of, and it's only the genuine love and concern of the characters that keeps the whole thing from becoming pedantic. It's the kind of book that adults hope kids will like - and I honestly hope they do.

I'd recommend for active boys 7-10 AR 4.4; 650L
