Here is a review I wrote for Amazon:
Like the flight attendants say: "In the unlikely event" of a life-threatening situation, this book covers them all and tells you how to handle them. The advice is credible because the author cites actual reports of various encounters with potential or real violent criminals, and analyzes what the victims did right or wrong. The emphasis is on escaping the situation as soon as possible, rather than freezing up and hiding, or passively obeying the attacker's demands. The author points out that you should run NOT "because he might shoot at me and miss", but because "if I don't run he probably will shoot me and not miss".
The book covers a variety of bad situations and tells you what to do (and what not to do) if: an intruder bursts into your house, your house catches on fire, someone hijacks your car, a robber demands your wallet, a mugger grabs you from behind, a guy with a gun walks into a store you are in, or you witness a violent crime in your neighborhood. And more.
It's unpleasant to read many of the case reports in the book, but the lessons are valuable.… (meer)
