In the tradition of the classic Ten Little Ladybugs, here comes another counting adventure with raised figures that decrease by one with each page turn. Kids will love it. The text is serviceable but not exceptional; the illustrations are cute. Used for Baby Loves Numbers baby storytime on 7/24/09.

This is a great book to use for a math lesson. I would use this book to open a math lesson with lower elementary students In this book you start with ten caterpillars until you count down to one.

Tarbett, Debbie. (2004). Ten Wriggly, Wiggly Caterpillars. New York: Sandy Creek.
This book tells the story of ten little caterpillars that were eating through leaves and other green yummies. Each time they eat through something, they lose one caterpillar along the way. By the end of the story, they all find each other again but now in the form of butterflies. The last page in which the butterflies are all shown is great because it's a pop-up and it's a surprise to kids when they turn to the last page and 10 butterflies jump out at them.
Compared to the other book in this genre, There Were Ten in the Bed, this book is geared towards any beginning reader. The illustrations are more colorful than the other book and each little caterpillar is an actual figurine that pops out of the book. It would be more engaging to a child than the other book.

This is a great book to read to students when counting. The book follows the format of ten little monkeys. The caterpillars disappear into butterflies at the end.

Five little ducks go out to play, over the hill and far away. Each day one duck doesn't come home until they are all gone and the mother duck goes to find them. She finds all five little ducks.

This book is very repetitive and if your students or children are learning to count this would be a good book.

This story would be good before a field trip to a local pond with ducks in it. It could also be used to have students make little duck puppets.
