Think 'Sims'....Compete as though you are in 'Saw'.... Lived by you.... the Virtian.

Though it is lacking in description in areas of this début novel by Kerrin Tarr, Reminiscence of Chaos is a quick paced opening book for what has the potential to be a great series.

Chaos Chime is an average kind of guy living an average kind of life. Until one day whilst scrolling through his emails, he comes across an invitation to join a virtual reality in which his physical being and assets are transferred into a world of games. -He really should have read the small print-
In this virtual world are many contestants, all of whom are to compete one another in order to not only win a life changing prize, but to be able to awake once more in the real world without their conciousness being 'recycled' for 8 years and putting them in a coma.

The rules are simple,
keep yourself fit and well both mentally and physically to win.
Cheat if necessary.
If you fail at all, you get recycled -comatose for 8 very long years-

The Reminiscence of Chaos is not a book that I would normally pick up and read. Game shows, virtual reality and human drama... ugh no thanks. However as I flew quickly from chapter to chapter I began to realise that this book had a lot more going for it than just that. Virtual reality can be a dangerous place for the weak and the Virtian League shows that in full. With a dark current pulling the story along and even darker characters Reminiscence of Chaos is indeed a fantasy book in its own right.

Characters were not overly in depth in this book, not much was said in ways of who they were, what they looked like or how they responded to different scenarios and many of them were clearly just placed to fill the '26 competitors'
However the characters which were given traits and depth were well thought out and I actually found myself wanting the enemy to be the winner, this is because at times Solstice -main character- came across a little to.... plain and feeble to actually feel any sort of hope or sympathy for the guy. I think this is what pushed me as a reader to back Blaise -the one who probably shouldn't be liked- But sometimes as a reader you really do take a stand for the one that takes life by the throat with all claws out.

Aside from the lack of description and the slight lack of follow on sentences -which were easily concluded- this was a quick paced and easy read that I actually enjoyed more than I had thought I would.
One can only hope that Mr. Tarr puts a bit more time in to his descriptive writing to help build atmosphere and character in the second book to this series. Of which I will be hoping to read soon.
