A long short story/novelette-length natural disaster themed tale, where the world awaits an expected supervolcanic eruption centred to originate from underneath Yellowstone National Park. A worldwide effort to ensure the survival of humanity has led to the construction of vast underground bunkers, equipped to sustain thousands of people for a period of five years, after which the worst consequences of the eruption would have passed. The book takes a normal British family as its focus, as they deal with the imminence of the catastrophe, and in their individual ways, tackle the issue of how best to survive.

This book does nothing new, but what it does do is take its themes and make them engaging. The central family, with their gently humorous dynamics, are highly recognisable to anyone who has grown up British. Overall, enjoyable.… (meer)
