i dont know if this is the squee comic i read, the one i read had him on the front with a purpley pink background, both the back and front covers as always with jhonnens comics were quite simply awesome.

As a fan of JTHM i was curious about squee i was mid way between wanting to read it and not because i didnt know what he would offer as the main character. But eventually curiosity won and i now have squees book of horrors ...i think that was the title??

Anyway i found squee a fair read, far more light hearted and less angsty than his wierd naibour Nny. But at the same time not nearly as funny, i would have thought shmee would have been in it more also. I did enjoy the devil child ones probably more than squee, and id love to read a comic with him as the star.
I wasnt to interested in the other ones i hate happy noodle boy and there only so much wobbly headed bob one can laugh at withot getting bored of his depressive state of mind the meanwhiles were okaii though
overall the comic was okay but i wouldnt get another squee one.

Everything about this is AMAZING! (Yes, I thought that in Zim's voice as I typed it. No, I'm not sorry).

This spin-off features another character featured in the mainline series: Nny's neighbor and timid friend- Squee. I think out of the spin-offs, this one was my least favorite. Still good and I did like it- some people out there actually prefer this spin-off more than the others. I'd absolutely still recommend it to Vasquez fans if they haven't read it yet. It gives some closure to some of the characters as well, so pick it up if you haven't.

A spin off from the regular series of JTHM. Still just as twisted and mentally deep as its parent series. This time it focuses on one of Nny's exes (and survivors of his attacks) and what's become of her life/mental state after meeting him. Now it's her turn to face the dark supernatural forces and psychological demons that drove Nny to lunacy. This comic is also said to be something of a reflection of how pressured Jhonen Vasquez felt when he was working for Nickelodeon. All the dark charm of JTHM, but packaged differently with a new cast that's just as good.½

One of my favorite comics ever- if not my most favorite comic series. I was introduced to this back in HS and it changed my life. It really takes a trip to the dark, deep corners of the human psyche and is quite thought provoking. Even though violent and gruesome forward, it has a mild emotional & touching undertone to it. 100% hilarious. It's like Chicken soup for the soul if you don't mind the raw chicken skeleton in it and a few feathers stuck to it.

It's the same issue/story as #20. It's was just reprinted/reissued for 2018's FCBD.½

If you are a fan of the show, this series will spark nostalgia in you and won't let you down. Ever since the cartoon stopped in the earlier 2000s, these comics makes it seem like the show kept going on. Highly recommended for Invader Zim fans. (Also, there's like over 40 issues, so I'm probably not going to review every one of them, but I do have a complete to near complete collection :) )

It feels weird saying this about such a gory book but this is just for kids. I think that's why I didn't like it. The whole thing reminded me of like back in middle school when everyone used deviantart and inexplicably loved GIR from Zim. I was into Invader Zim back then too, and a lot of material from Squee was obviously recycled for it, but reading this makes me wonder if I would actually enjoy rewatching it as an adult. The humor is the same, sort of like Don Hertzfeldt's "Rejected", just sort of shock value and edgy, but unlike "Rejected" this one didn't actually make me laugh at all. It was just sort of disturbing, and I completely understand that he was going for the Kafkaesque but it honestly just didn't land at all.
The first half of this was all about the same character, Squee, but his story arc sort of leaves off halfway through and the second half is just unconnected vignettes, which I was not expecting. Had Squee's story actually gone somewhere maybe I would have enjoyed this a little more, but without that there was very little to redeem this book. The art style is recognizable for sure, but a lot of it is either super inscrutable or just gory and gross, a lot of the humor is unfunny metahumor or just too verbose, and I had trouble reading Jhonen's handwriting in the speech bubbles a lot of the time! All in all I may have thought this was funny when I was like 12, but as an adult it just seems like it's edgy for the sake of being edgy.

I loved this at the time of reading it, but let's be honest, my tastes were pretty cringe at that time. Served with a generous helping of Korn and Slipknot, JNCO bondage pants and Manic Panic hair dye applied to an undercut, a wallet that read Pornstar in letters on fire secured by a wallet chain I made out of plastic yellow barrier chain I stole from the mall parking lot.

Cute, funny, disgusting, and horrifying! I don't think it's really my type of book, comic or not--but it was interesting to see compiled in one place.

Poor little Squee LOL
Squee is a nervous little boy who lives in a frightening world. He is plagued by pretty much everything including strange adults, aliens from another world, and the crazy homicidal maniac who lives next door. 😜😜😜
Just like the rest of Jhonen Vasquez's comics this one is beautifully drawn. No I wouldn't say beautiful... I would say dark. Yes very dark. As in all of his artwork Vasquez's disdain for the rest of humanity comes out in clear comedic form. The poor little protagonist views the outside world as exactly that and yearns to living a life of his own away from scary reality.
As the spin off of JTHM I think Vasquez did beautifully with the series. The artwork is the same as the original series and the irony is also on par with the original JTHM.
Anyone who likes Invader Zim or JTHM would love this series as well.

What can I say about dear ol' Nny? LOL He is so delightfully mad in a completely insane world. For many of us Jhonen Vasquez fans, this is where it all began. Just us, Johnny, Nail Bunny and a few dead bodies laying around.
For those who are fans of the TV show Invader Zim but don't know JTHM, please educate yourselves 😉 This is truly a dark, captivating, clever and completely insane work of art. ❤❤❤❤❤
Devilishly demented.
JTHM stands for Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. He is a young man who struggles with more than just mental illness. He has psychotic episodes, hallucinations, and more than that a desire to commit murder. He stuffs rats into stuffed animals and puts them into blenders. He Nails animals to the wall and then speaks to them. Creepier yet, they speak to him! He keeps people in the basement to exact his need for violence and bloodshed. And he constantly battles with the desire to commit suicide.
This is one of my most favorite comic book series. I love the artwork that Jhonen Vasquez presents. It is both creepy and stimulating to the eye. But as the creator of the Invader Zim series I would expect nothing less.
JTHM was his first adventure into creation via art and I have to say it's most definitely his best. The distain for living day today and the characters discust for the rest of humanity are really felt through his artwork.
JTHM is both extremely comical and horrifyingly terrible. But obviously it is only that way for a select type of reader. I feel that most people would find this comic very unsettling. However I also feel that this is geared more towards the younger generations who would see the comedy of irony in it. I could speak volumes on this work but I will stop there to restrain myself from babbling LOL.
I would highly recommend this comic book series to anyone who likes Invader Zim or creepy comics in general.

Another series I read in high school which caused my locker to be searched and many mandatory trips to the guidance counselor for just being a typical weird alternative girl hahaha.
Dark humor of a serial killer psychopath that just wants to keep his walls red while talking to his best friend a stuffed rabbit nailed to a wall.

What a lot of people don't realize about johnny, he's actually pretty damn aware and smart. He kind of plays on the ignorance of other humans for fun which I think he may find a little more enjoyable than the actual homicides.

This one I think is a bit more philosophical than the others. It's shows Nnys actual thought process, and that he might just be making himself more insane circling in questions

The saddest of the series. IMO I think nny had enough of psychotic breaks and his psyche completely gave up.

Invader Zim, Volume 2 is more of the same story telling fans expect from this series based on Jhonen Vasquez's Nickelodeon television show. While the art in the first story isn't as good as that in Volume 1, the rest is good. The third story even includes a fun reference to Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978, dir. Philip Kaufman). Writers K.C. Green, Kyle Starks, Eric Trueheart, and Dennis & Jessie Hopeless perfectly capture the tone of the television series while still offering something new that will entertain the fans. Aaron Alexovich and Dave Crosland's art likewise preserves the tone of the series. Fans are bound to find this second volume from Oni Press a worthy continuation and proof of Invader Zim's lasting impact.

Invader Zim, Volume 1 picks up where the Nickelodeon series left off, with Zim attempting to conquer Earth on behalf of the Irken Armada with robot Gir as his classmate Dib tries to thwart his plans while railing to an indifferent world that an alien invasion is on the way. Fans of the television series will find the stories and characters they love in these books, complete with the antics and occasional lack of continuity that make Invader Zim the cult favorite it remains. This volume collects the first five comics from Oni Press, written by Jhonen Vasquez and Eric Trueheart with pencils by Aaron Alexovich and inks by Megan Lawton.

The graphic novel is almost as good as the show! The only thing it is missing is the voices, which I can do in my head.... Anyways, if you are a big fan of the show, the authors stuck close to the characters as we know them but also adapted them to evolve a little into their respective roles. The same dry, dark humor is there and even a filler "episode"! For those that are new to Invader Zim... I would watch the show then read the comic

2.5 stars. Johnny (a.k.a. Nny) is a homicidal maniac and basically just goes around killing people, and sometimes contemplates killing himself.

I wasn’t crazy about Johnny and his stories, but I liked some of the supporting characters. I also liked the little “introduction” of the characters (likes, dislikes, etc.) at the end of the book. I also liked the strips of the first Johnny comics; I actually preferred the look of them to the current comics. Overall, though, I just can’t quite say I liked it, so 2.5 stars.½
