This book really would have made a decent screenplay. But not such a great book.

I was OK with it until Vilk misquoted John 1. I know that not everyone is a Christian, and not everyone has the passage memorized, but how hard is it to look the verses up?? "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was made flesh" is NOT how it reads, no matter which translation you use. The fact that the misquote feeds a major plot point (the creation of the Golem using that Word) really messed the book up for me. I didn't care about any of the characters, the settings seemed very stock, and the plot was thin.

The pacing of the book, the style of writing, etc. show that the book would make a good screenplay. But it reads like a screenplay -- and I don't enjoy reading screenplays.… (meer)
