This seems a very strange book choice for me. I am not religious, I do not believe in god. But I do believe in the right of anyone to believe in what they want, so i could overlook the pages dripping in faith that handed everything over to a higher power that supposedly knew better. There were a lot of pages to overlook. I think the key message of this book is to stop, think, reevaluate, learn and adapt accordingly. Some people do that through faith in god when they do not have any strength left. I did not get a lot out of this book, probably due to my lack of faith with a capital f. Rightly or wrongly, I feel that the little voice I hear inside my head when I ask difficult questions is still me, others would say it is God. Regardless, this book does pose some interesting psychological questions and I imagine for somene who did possess faith with a capital f, it would be helpful. I'm scoring it low because it read exceptionally preachy, especially when it spent many pages stating that ptsd was essentially a spiritual attack from Satan, and in places bordered on hypocrisy in my opinion. Veterans and family members touched by ptsd do need help and understanding, if this book is their cup of tea, grand, but no doubt I shall spend an eternity burning.… (meer)

The two address the cold stark reality head on: war is ugly, Soldiers are trained to kill, and many struggle with the internal demons of what they've done and seen long after the uniform comes off. We all face a tough battle when coming home and trying to reintegrate into society is a fight that some servicemen and women unfortunately don't win. But armed with this roadmap the battles can be won and our country's most precious assets can be healed.
This book was a great way to get a look behind the curtain and see what goes on in the mind of a young man who's seen too much. It is a helpful resource not only to those affected with PTSD, but also the family and friends of those who are affected with PTSD. It is a great book with real world lessons, experiences, explanations, and helpful tips that those with PTSD can utilize or the family and friends of those effected with PTSD. It is extremely creditable by the humility, humanity, and passion that Chad and Brian write with regarding their experiences, the experiences of those they help and the network of resources they have and utilize. Every service member who reads this will immediately understand, relates, and connects with these two men. This is not something written by "specialist" or doctors who have never seen the reality of war and its effect on the men and women who come back from war with more questions than answers. Thank You both for being so instrumental in the lives of our men and women affected with PTSD.
