The story moved too fast to be able to set up the impactful moments properly. I didn't really feel anything for the characters by the end.

This story is so good! I got interested in reading the comics after my husband and I binged the show on Amazon Prime. And as you can probably tell from this fact, we loved the show!

It was honestly so cool to see how well the show had been adapted from the comics. At the same time though, enough was different that I really enjoyed getting all the extra bits of the story in the comic. This ultimate collection volume contains the first 3 volumes (13 issues) out of the 25 total volumes (144 issues) of the comic run. It seemed like most of the first season of the show was covered in this first ultimate collection volume. I’m excited to have so much more ahead of me in the story!

Invincible is the story of teen Mark Grayson as he finally begins to inherit his super powers from his dad— who just so happens to be the most powerful superhero on the planet. “Family Matters” is an insightful title for the first issue, as we see Mark go from average teen with lots of homework, a part time job at Burger Mart, and hanging out with friends to learning what it means to be a super hero. We also get to see the dynamic between him, his super powered dad, and his mom who doesn’t have super powers aside from those types hardworking moms normally do.

I don’t want to give too much away, so I will just say that the story has lots of VERY interesting twists and character development. There were parts that made laugh out loud, parts that made me say “that’s so cool,” and parts that just left me too stunned for words.

TW: Graphic violence (in both the featured volume of comic and the show— the later of which is rated TV-MA)

Probably would not have kept reading if I wasn't told something big happens later.

This was better than I expected it to me. I like... non-happy endings and timey wimey-ness

I'm enjoying the series so far. This time around factors more around the father than the son. Why did he do what he did?? I need answers? Such a sad volume. All the characters are great... even the villains!

Much like the first book, except getting more exciting. The store becomes more engrossing as it moves along and introduces more characters.

I originally read this while I was working at a library back around 2016-2017, but can't remember the exact dates. I've recently been re-reading it due to the show coming out and re-popularizing it. I'm not much of a superhero comic kind of guy, but I really like the meta ones (like Watchmen) that look into broader more "realistic" scenarios revolving around global issues that would stem from super beings. This one does a great job of that while being quite a bit more palatable than Watchmen.

I've heard a lot of good things about Invincible, and I believe them, although I'm not really sure that this fired on all cylinders for me. The art is a little spartan, but it grows on you in a way. I kind of wish there was a bit less backstory in this and more focusing on Mark dealing with Life As A Superhero. I can see myself picking up another collection of this down the line, but I'm not in a rush.

Ehh, not perfect (some of the dialogue wouldn't hold up by today's standards ) but still entertaining.

It was more of a 3.5 out of 5. I got it for kindle for free from amazon and read it in about 20 minutes. I only picked it up (so to speak) because it was by Robert Kirkman, it was alright. It's about a kid in high school named Mark and his father is a superhero and he's just getting his powers. He takes down a few bad guys, checks out a suit. Everything you would expect from a superhero comic.

Mark solves a recurring rock-monster problem and goes looking for a college and we are finally introduced to the Guardians of the Globe, in quite a startling way. Great continuation of a series that started off really well. The art is a little too cartoonish for my personal tastes, but it does fit well with the teenager storyline, so I can't really fault it on that account.½

Mark Grayson is a regular high school student, except his father is the most powerful superhero on earth and Mark is starting to develop powers of his own. This was a lot of fun; the characters are believable and the humor is great. The storyline is mainly Origin story, but it's evident that the potential is there for a fantastic series. The art is fitting for the story of a teenager superhero as well.

This story continues to impress me; with some great humor, well paced action, and some genuine mystery added in for good measure, this volume is definitely all about later plots. While the first volume, Family Matters, set up the core characters for Invincible, this volume is clearly set up as starting points for future story lines, so while it doesn't actually seem like much happens here, it just makes me want to continue reading so I can see how all these plot threads play out. Cory Walker's art and Bill Crabtree's colors are top notch again; I really like the minimal line art and coloring. The inclusion of different artists working on the introduction of additional characters to the book was a nice touch too, helping each character stand out a little while having the briefest of introductions. On to the third volume!

This was a reread for me, but it had been awhile since I'd read this and the mood struck me. I enjoyed this just as much this time as I had the first time around. I've tried Kirkman's other works, The Walking Dead, Outcast, and Haunt and they all fell flat for me, and to be honest, I'd forgotten that Kirkman had written this too, so I guess it's just his horror titles that I don't like. I thoroughly enjoy the family dynamic in Invincible, with Markus Grayson and his mom, Deborah, fully embracing knowing his dad, Nolan, is the superhero Omni-Man. When Markus' powers manifest, he decides to join his dad in crime fighting as Invincible. I think I like Deborah most of all, as her matter of fact acceptance of the danger her husband and son face on a daily basis hides the concern she actual feels for her family.

This is a quick introduction to the core and supporting cast, and the actual superhero aspect of the story is really just the backdrop to Markus' family and him discovering his powers and how he is learning to balance them with high school. I really liked the minimal line art and color palette used; it's marks a stark contrast from other superhero books and their hyper detail and layered color effects, which I think is the point. This book is a superhero book, but it's different from the rest. I'll definitely be continuing with this series.

It's superhero usual stuff, but I quite liked it.

Mark Grayson is a pretty ordinary teen, with one big difference: his dad is a superhero from outer space. And now that Mark's hit puberty, he's starting to develop powers too.

The art is pretty good--clean lines, nice coloring, fairly recognizable characters, good renderings of action. The plot is pretty basic superheroing stuff. The tone is what sets this apart: Mark and his family take all the weirdness and awesomeness of superpowers totally in stride, and talk about getting kidnapped by aliens in another galaxy as though it's as prosaic as doing the dishes.

I just hope the stakes and emotions get raised in the next book. The totally casual, easy going way Mark approaches superheroing is a nice change from the usual breathless crisis of world-view that most new heroes have, but I'd still like to feel he's actually risking something by putting on spandex.

The best superhero comic of the past decade. It has all the tropes and a certain level of realism, while still being cartoonish with the art.

It's like Superman only cooler and more realistic. Invincible, aka Mark is just a teen trying to balance school, work, girls and saving the world. As much as it is about superheros it's also about families and loyalty. Great stuff and ridiculously funny.

Fun offshoot of Kirkman's INVINCIBLE, with a surprising emotional punch for a gag title.

It's rare to find really original superhero stories. Invincible starts out normally enough, but turns out to be one of the best superhero stories I've read.

Best Super-Hero Book ever. Starts simply enough but starts throwing unexpected curves, quickly becoming something completly original and entertaining.
