Marcus B. Weaver-Hightower

Marcus B. Weaver-Hightower brings us an overview of the political climate that surrounds the school lunch program, primarily in the US. Being an academic, the research and care put into the arguments posted in this book are top notch. There is so much information about the history, both legislative and social, of the school lunch program.

That said, the overt bias of the author was definitely off putting. To the point where I could not finish the book--and I tend to lean in his direction. There was some definite moments where the bias was more pronounced. For example, after explaining how awful conservatives and "neoliberals" are in regards to the school lunch program, and how racist the original designers were... he fails to mention those designers were both Democrats. He absolutely NEVER fails to mention when someone who has affected the school lunch program negatively is Republican. You can easily tell who's who, by whether the author tells you their party affiliation.

Extreme bias, even in a political piece, does not make good reading. I simply expect more from someone so highly credentialed. I doubt he would accept this from his students.… (meer)
