The description of the book threw me off thinking that something bad was going to happen, but that is definitely not the case here.

Marcel first spots Jeremy before boarding the train and is drawn to him. Jeremy realizes that Marcel is a vampire and doesn't want to be his next meal so he is terrified up until they truly come face to face.

There is a tiny smidge of angst due to misconceptions about bat/vampire history but that is quickly resolved.

The chemistry these two have is smoking hot! I'm definitely glad there was biting involved because the vampire stories I've read lately haven't shown this.

A Swan for Christmas is the fourth book in the ‘Vale Valley Season One’ series. It stars Kellan, a swan shifter, and Vic, a wolf shifter. The story is told in third person from both Kellan and Vic’s pov.



This story was loaded with cuteness, fluffiness and so much sugar, it could give you a toothache. It also contained a lot of the usual mpreg, shifter tropes. Despite all that and the stereotypical characters, I really enjoyed this book and found it entertaining. I will definitely be reading the follow-up stories.

First about the cover. It’s eye-catching and I really like it.

When I read this story, I hadn’t read anything by this author before or so I thought. The author’s name is the pen name for Morticia Knight who writes Daddy, and BDSM books. I can understand why she writes under a different name for fantasy/paranormal. It’s so different from her other stories I’ve read. And to be honest, I actually liked this book better than the BDSM or Daddy ones I’ve read.

I’m not going to go into the plot because the blurb explains what the plot is about well enough. I would like to know a bit more about the mysterious town though, and how it came to be, and how it’s protected from society’s prying eyes.

The author did a good job creating distinctive personalities for all the characters, including the side characters. Because of the mate trope, both Kellan and Vic were drawn to each other quickly. I thought it a bit much that Kellan trusted Vic so fast, but if Vic was his mate, Kellan’s swan would understand that. Also, Kellan grew up with a sad background and Vic looked after Kellan like no one else had. The one thing I thought was a bit odd, was that Kellan’s personality throughout the story reminded me of a young teenager about thirteen years old, when in reality he was nineteen. It was the way Kellan talked and acted. It could’ve been his background that made him that way, but the way he talked and the fact that Vic was in his thirties, unsettled me and I never quite got over how child-like Kellan’s personality was. The author did a good job of showing Kellan and Vic as a convincing couple. They worked well together.

The author created a believable mpreg situation for an egg-layer. I could easily imagine Kellan shifting into swan form to lay the egg. The way the author wrote the scene was much more believable than the mpreg, ass-birthing, mammal shifters. I mean how many mammals do you know give birth through their butts? That’s one reason I’ve never found mpreg mammal births even remotely realistic for a fantasy story. I’m glad this author was more creative.

The ending was a bit disappointing. It wasn’t a cliff hanger, but it did end after Kellan laid the egg and the readers don’t get to see the egg hatch. It looks like the next book picks up where this one ended which is good.

With all its cuteness and fluffiness, I enjoyed A Swan for Christmas and intend on reading the follow-up books in the series. I give this book, 4 Stars

Una lettura dolcissima e piena di buoni sentimenti. La storia facente parte di una serie scritta da più autori ci porta in una cittadina dove regnano l'amore e le coccole, una cittadina fatata in cui shifter, umani, streghe e maghi vivono in pace ed armonia aiutandosi e supportandosi. Viste le premesse la novella scorre senza troppi problemi senza mai cadere nel angst o nel dramma. Troviamo Vic un Alpha shifter lupo, proprietario della locanda più famosa della piccola cittadina che durante una tormenta di neve salva da morte certa il dolce Kellan, uno sfortunato omega shifter cigno abbandonato dalla sua famiglia. I due seppur diversi per cultura, età e passato impareranno ben presto a conoscersi avvicinandosi sempre di più fino all'inevitabile, e anche piuttosto affrettato visto il numero di pagine, innamoramento. La storia è molto carina e piena di miele, perfetta per il clima natalizio e per combattere il freddo invernale. Vic è il classico bravo ragazzo che si lancerebbe nel fuoco per salvare l'amato e Kellan è il bravo ragazzo sfortunato, maltrattato e costretto a crescere prima del tempo per pregiudizio, ignoranza e crudeltà della famiglia. I due uomini si completano a vicenda e la loro storia seppur un po' troppo affrettata mi ha conquistato. La pecca principale che mi ha impedito di arrotondare a 5 stelline facendomi storcere il naso ahimè è proprio la lunghezza della storia. Essendo racconti brevi di appena un centinaio di pagine purtroppo mancano di descrizioni e approfondimenti. Sarebbe infatti stato bello esplorare maggiormente la natura degli shifter cigno essendo creature rarissime negli universi shifter/omegaverse così come il rapporto tra i due protagonisti. Non so se alcune cose verranno accennate in altri libri essendo in parte collegati (in questo ad esempio vengono citati due personaggi che saranno la prossima coppietta protagonista) però.. ho trovato i personaggi presentati (sia principali che secondari) non troppo approfonditi a livello di background. Sappiamo qualcosa in più su Kellan in base ai suoi racconti ma pochissimo su Vic e ancora di meno sugli amici della coppietta. Avrei voluto di più. Anche l'innamoramento è rapidissimo e si passa dal flirt al sesso in pochissime pagine. Tempo di uscire insieme che già si mettono insieme e la gravidanza rapidissima di Kellan non aiuta. Anche la gravidanza infatti avrei voluto fosse curata di più essendo particolare vista la natura del giovane omega. Curiosa infatti la scelta delle uova (seppur in tema) e avrei voluto capire come un lupo possa in effetti rendere fertili le uova di un cigno... avrei voluto il classico personaggio che spiega "è successo per questi motivi" almeno... ok che in un mondo fatato e magico le cose strane sono all'ordine del giorno però.. qualche dettaglio non avrebbe fatto male a nessuno. In ogni caso è una storiella carina che consiglio ma... credo sia da leggere solo dopo aver letto i libri precedenti. Non è indispensabile ma mi sono ritrovata a conoscere personaggi che a quanto pare sono vecchie conoscenze di Vic e che probabilmente sono stati approfonditi nei volumi precedenti e anche se ho potuto apprezzare il loro buon cuore e simpatia non mi sono entrati dentro come i protagonisti rimanendo personaggi di contorno carini ma nulla più quindi... anche se standalone lo consiglio solo dopo la lettura dei volumi precedenti della serie così da avere più chiara la struttura e i rapporti tra i vari personaggi secondari, la gerarchia della cittadina, le dinamiche tra le coppie ecc… (meer)
