This won the 1946 Pulitzer prize for biography, and since I am sort of 'doing' those winners, I read it. It is the 62nd Pulitzer-prize-winning biography I have read. It tells the story of the life well, altho it is sort of hagiographical. Muir was a founder of the Sierra club, and did a lot to call attention to the destruction going on of our natural habitat. He was born Apr 21, 1838, in Dunbar, Scotland, came to the US in 1849, and died Dec 24, 1914, in Los Angeles, California. Some of the things he did were imprudent and even bizarre, but in toto he is an important figure in the natural history of the United States.

All of John Muir's writings are infused with Pantheism; this collection from his journals represent his most "religious" writing.
