I would be surprised,nay astonished if anyone outside of Northamptonshire and the surrounding counties of England had heard the name of Frank Brierley.However to those of us who live in the aforementioned places, and are over a certain age,then he was extremely well-known and one could even say notorious figure.
He rose from a market trader to a multi-millionaire with many early supermarket stores to his name.He was eventually sent to prison however for conspiracy to defraud and cheat,among other charges.
This is not a well written book I fear,nor is Brierley a likeable figure,but that said he was a great force in Northampton in the 1950's - 1960's and could well have been described as a 'Rogue with a Heart of Gold' I suppose.… (meer)
