Synopsis: A young reporter is looking for a follow-up story about the death of a CEO he's just interviewed. This throws him into the middle of a police investigation. As unlikely as it seems he ends up being invited to observe police procedure, and ends up helping to solve the case that has its roots in the reform movement in China.
Review: It gook me a while to warm up to this book - about one-third of the way through - simply because of the manner in which it was translated. However, I'm glad I persisted since this is a nice police procedural that also gives some insight into life in China.½

Ok. It took me a while that the novel was set in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
The culprit is identified mid book but the insights on the cultural revolution and the ascent of capitalism are really interesting
