To mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Words Without Borders and Open Letter produced this gorgeous anthology of fiction, essays, and poems about both life behind the Iron Curtain and the change, optimism, and confusion that went along with the end of Communism. This collection includes both new voices (Dan Sociu, Uwe Tellkamp, Dorota Maslowska) along with contemporary masters (Ryszard Kapuscinski, Vladimir Sorokin, Victor Pelevin), and also contains a great introduction by novelist and translator Keith Gessen.
