My library consists mostly of works which would be deemed Classical Literature; with my greatest fondness being for works of 19th Century French and Russian Literature. I do not have much of an appreciation for modern works, as I see them abandoning the rich tapestry laid down before them by more worthwhile, meritorious authors, only for the sake of being "Avant Garde," in the process of which, they cede more of a poetic, eloquent and astute writing style, in favor of something crude and banal. Though I do not wish to come off as haughty, in all likelihood, I do - but I've yet to read a work of modern fiction as well-crafted as that of Zola, Dostoevsky, Goethe, or Balzac, etc. that doesn't have a terribly contrived air about it. Now, however, to lighten my disposition, I'll also make note of my enjoyment of children's books, especially that of Hans Chrisitian Andersen.

My name is Alain. My name on here, however, is an amalgam of my first name and the name of one character that I revere and adore, Iago, from Othello. Perhaps it's strange to have such adoration for a libertine such as he, but I found him to be of such richness and depth. Taking the presumption that this is off topic, given that it is not about myself, per se, I will move ahead.

I am 19 years old, originally from Brasil, and I am currently a student of Comparative Literature at the University of Washington in Seattle. Beyond my fervor for literature, I am somewhat of a musician; having studied various instruments, such as the Piano, Guitar, Flute and to a lesser extent, Violin.
