I really enjoyed his book. Maybe because I hail from the same rough New York City Streets in the 1930's and as a veteran Hollywood Screenwriter/Producer/Director I can appreciate the commitment it took to become a successful actor. (1), starts primitive (1), It is a very candid and very honest account of the forces at work that dictated the outcome of the most important single air assault of WWII (1), the attempt to destroy Germany's oil production. (1), The joy in the simplicities of life. L.M. Montgomery's description of landscapes and seasons are so real and striking I can smell the fields of flowers and see the stunning sunsets. (1), as yet we lay claim too it as if we had given birth to it. I know as much about the facts of the evolution of man as I know about why an atom can cause an atomic explosion. That is why I am fascinated with reading about the ancient civilizations. (1), then another civilization comes in and does the same thing. between the collapses we have peace and harmony and perhaps prosperity. Little known that western civilization has it's origins in China (1), aquires other civilizations becomes more and more complex until it becomes too heavy and collapses (1), masters the skills of survival (1), Every culture does the same thing (1), One of my favorite classics I just re-read for the um-teenth time. The pirate/sailor/harbor descriptions recreate a time period in my mind in such a real way I feel I walked those harbor streets and swabbed a deck on one of those grand sailing ships! It i (1), sans a sense of humor. I enjoy most everything written by Will Durant. (1), Durant 's writing is not the usual philisophical mumbo jumbo. He made the introspection as easy to understand as brushing your teeth. He reminds me of Shaw (1), memorize and use the words. At first they seemed out of place but as I got older the words seemed to flow into my conversation. (1), In my judgement he was and is the social conscience of the twentieth century. The only author I've ever encountered that treated sex with a sense of humor. My favorite work of his would have to be MY FAIR LADY because it speaks to the importance ofl anguag (1), Fascinating to see the mega-powerful at work. (1), to this day I cannot believe it all really happened. I knew when I left the service I would someday write this memoir but somehow it took me fifty years to find a chair. (1), It took me seven years to write but fifty years to find a chair! During the Korean War I was in the ASA at a super-secret base in OJI-Japan. It was an amazing year (1), A very comprehensive fascinating account of his early life and interest in Archaeology. The search for the lost city of Troy which he believed was a real place and he was ultimately vindicated by finding physical evidence of the place.. (1)

Over mijn bibliotheek
I've always preferred non-fiction. Books I can learn something from like Egyptian History, Religion and Politics
and most of all Shaw's Plays.
Every once in awhile a piece of fiction hits all the right notes and transcends the make-believe.
Over mij
I started out in new York as an actor and was lucky enough to be around and a part of some of the hot playwrights of the eary 1950's. I soon found my own creative ideas trumped performing those works of others. Case in point, my short stint in Tennessee Williams-Sweet Bird of Youth. After a few nights of waiting to go on and seeing the cast wittled down to a few by the playwright sitting in the alley with a typewriter in perpetual rewrites, I sarcastically exclaimed, "if he kills off any more actors I'll be out here doing a monolgue." I guess he heard me.
In the years that followed I produced Captain Kangaroo
and created numerous game shows for the networks. All the while my passion was SCREENWRITING and DIRECTING. I managed to make some independant films before the word became a household name with actors such as an 18 year old Marsha Mason, Keenan Wynn, Robert lansing, George Stanford Brown and Bernie Kopel.
Now later in life I find I love the simplicity of just writing, just me and my words. For six years I worked on a memoir of my time in the ASA during the Korean War. I was kind of sad when the mad emotional roller coaster journey of writing it was over. But now that it is published I have moved into the phase of enjoying the reactions to it from the public.
